Re: Bibliography An important fact to add here: DREAMSONGS: A RRRETROSPECTIVE To be published on 21 September 2006, Dreamsongs is a major collection of GRRM's fiction, amassing over 1200 pages as a large-format book. For £13 from Amazon, it's quite a steal. Inside this book is a vast swathe of GRRM's short fiction, including his award-winning stories 'The Skin Trade', 'Sandkings', 'A Song for Lya', 'The Way of Cross and Dragon' and his first Westeros short story, 'The Hedge Knight'. Due to copywright issues, 'The Sworn Sword' could not be included. There are also some of GRRM's articles and book criticism, as well as some of his TV and pilot scripts, although it is not clear if any of his scripts for the late 1980s TV series Beauty and the Beast (which he was a producer, script editor and lead writer on) will be included.

Re: Bibliography Here's also a list of all A Song of Ice and Fire-related material available to date. The Novels 1. A Game of Thrones 2. A Clash of Kings 3. A Storm of Swords (split into two parts in the UK) 4. A Feast for Crows 5. A Dance with Dragons (forthcoming, likely in spring/summer 2007) 6. The Winds of Winter (forthcoming) 7. A Dream of Spring (forthcoming) The Short Stories 1. The Hedge Knight 2. The Sworn Sword 3. 'Dunk and Egg III' (title and publication details to be announced) Likely another 6-9 Dunk and Egg tales to be published between and after the main novels. The Graphic Novels 1. The Hedge Knight 2. The Sworn Sword (forthcoming) 3. A Game of Thrones (forthcoming) Adapted and published by Dabel Brothers, these extremely well-drawn and faithful adaptions of the short stories have proven very popular. Their ambition to turn the entirety of A Song of Ice and Fire into a graphic novel series is laudable, if possibly unrealistic, so it will be interesting to see where they go with that. The Artbook The Art of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire Published by Fantasy Flight, this book is an impressive collection of hundreds of pieces of art from disparate sources relating to the series. Most notable for Amok's superb gallery of portraits of the Targaryen rulers (these can also be seen here, alongside newer portraits of other Targaryen family members). The Roleplaying Game A Game of Thrones Roleplaying Game written by Guardians of Order and published by White Wolf. An exceptional resource, with brilliant artwork, a gorgeous map of Westeros and some fascinating new material (particularly on the history of the Seven Kingdoms) not seen previously. Several expansions were planned for the game, but the company's financial crisis makes it unlikely that they will appear soon. The Board Game A Game of Thrones Tactical Wargame A Clash of Kings Expansion Set A Storm of Swords Expansion Set All published by Fantasy Flight Games. An excellent strategy game, reminiscent of Risk or Diplomacy, based around the seven ruling houses of Westeros battling one another for supremacy. The new Storm of Swords expansion introduces a small-scale wargame featuring forces battling for control of the Riverlands. The Card Game Too many games and expansions to list. This is a very popular CCG (collectable card game) similar to Magic: The Gathering, but based around the factions and families of Westeros. Miniatures Game Testors have recently completed a series of ASoIaF miniature figures and are preparing a wargame to use them with, to be released at the end of this year or next year. Computer Games There are no official ASoIaF computer games (yet) but fan-made mods have appeared. The Night's Watch and A Duel of Lords: these are fan-created adventures using the Neverwinter Nights game on PC and are free to download. You need Neverwinter Nights to play them. Westeros: Total War: a very promising mod for Rome: Total War, this was abandoned a few months ago, although attempts are underway to resurrect it for Medieval 2: Total War, which would be a much better fit for the books anyway. Mount and Blade: a totally fan-originated game revolving around mounted combat, at least two ASoIaF-related mods are currently being created for it.

| Re: Bibliography On a related note in the interest of completeness, there is a heavy metal band called Winterfell heavily inspired by the novels (I'm not kidding!). Sample lyric: Quote:

Re: Bibliography A team of modders are now working on a Song of Ice and Fire mod for Medieval 2: Total War. The mod will allow players to take control of one of several factions and fight for control of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms. The factions are: House Stark House Lannister House Tully House Arryn House Tyrell House Martell House Greyjoy Joffrey Baratheon/The Iron Throne Stannis Baratheon/The Firery Heart Renly Baratheon The Night's Watch The Wildlings Players will be able to recruit mercenaries from the Free Cities, try to spread their religion through the land (the old gods versus the Seven versus the Lord of Light versus the Drowned God), lay siege to the castles and cities of the land, engage in naval skirmishes and face down the threat of the Wildlings, whilst winter advances from the north. At the moment there are no plans to include Daenerys or the Others in the game, but this could change. The mod is at a very early stage of development and could be a year or more away from completion. However, there will be releases before that. The mod (which is naturally free, due to copyright issues) will require that the player have a purchased copy of Medieval 2: Total War.

Re: Bibliography There aren't any rules, don't worry. ![]() The two short stories (novellas, really) are set in the same world and add something to the understanding of the books, but they're absolutely not necessary to understand the series.

Re: Bibliography Some addendums to the above: A Dance with Dragons will now (probably) be out in 2008, hopefully spring-summer. The third Dunk & Egg short story will (probably) appear in a new anthology entitled Warriors, due some time in 2008. The World of Ice and Fire by Elio Garcia, Linda Antonsson and George RR Martin is currently in the planning stages and will be released some time after A Dance with Dragons. This book will contain lots of historical, cultural and political information not before released, never-before-seen maps of the eastern continent and possibly new castle and city maps. Elio and Linda run the westeros.org website, whose exhaustive concordance is sometimes used by GRRM himself as a reference guide. A new version of The Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying Game is in development, following the previous version's folding. The new edition will use a whole new rules system and will be released by Green Ronin. A veteren of White Wolf and TSR, Anthony Pryor, is among the design team. Testors lost the licence to the miniatures and miniatures game and a new company, Dark Sword Miniatures is now working on them. Figurines and busts are now being worked on by Valyrian Resin. HBO have picked up the rights to produce a 13-episode live-action television series based on A Game of Thrones. A pilot script has been completed and HBO are currently looking at it. They haven't officially comissioned anything yet, and any potential TV series could be several years off. However, HBO generally use the options they pick up, even if they take a few years to get around to it.

Re: Bibliography Sorry, this might be out of topic, but have you guys read the latest new Ice & Fire sample on Jon Snow (it seems to be that this is all we get these days; baggers can't be choosers ), it's pretty good...I just had a look at Martin's website today, don't know when it was last updated though, so this message might be way outdated and if so sorry in advance, just wanted to point this out.Cheers, DeepThought
