Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) Hi Guys, am new so sorry if this has been posted or discussed before, But I am I the only one who got the feeling that Jianna reinhabits Askari at the end of SoNaD? Just had a feeling with the way it ended with her forgetting her bow again. Any responses appreciated and apologies to anyone who hasn't finished it yet.

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) To be honest Im not 100% sure that thats what the third book would have been about, I know that DG was interested in exploring Hewla so I think that would have been the next Drenai book had he stayed with us. Still it was one of the many options of his. As to is it or isnt it, yep I think it is.

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) I reckon it wasn't Askari in that body too,the thing with the bow, dead giveaway, and put in on purpose to lead to another book, which tragically will never happen,oh my god!!!,did any of us realise what a gigantic loss David passing has been,a writing titan has been taken from us,words cannot describe it,so i'm leaving it to all our imaginations.........

I think its very strange you didnt notice (no offence!!). That was the point Gemmell was making when "Askari" left her bow behind. She was a huntress, and went everywhere with her bow. Jianna wasnt a bowman(bowlady?) so she didn't need a bow (and she probably didnt know Askari used it so much). Last edited by Kania; 23rd May 2007 at 11:20 AM. Reason: grammar mistake

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) This was the only book by Gemmel that I've read so far, and man was it good! Looks like we're all in agreement on Askari ... something I rather regret, since I liked her as a character.

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) If you liked tSoNaD, then you will definatly love White Wolf. Its the first Skillgannon book, and gives alot more history on him and Jianna. Not to mention there is an appearance from the real Druss You dont know how lucky you are....the entire Gemmell catalogue in front of you, unopened... ![]()

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) It was a shame Askari had to go, I liked her she gave a great insight into what Jianna would have been before she had to save her throne.

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) Did anyone feel that was potential wasted in tSoNaD? As I read it I felt almost sure that other old favourites were going to make a return. Waylander for one, but I felt others would have been possible. It could have been even better I think.

Re: Swords of Night and Day ending(May spoil the end if you haven't finished) Interesting. I noticed this too, but I am of the thinking that the end character is a splice-up of Askari AND Jianna. Not really sure how best to explain this. The only way I can do this is by refering to a scenario in the Dragonlance novels when Raistlin defeats Fistandantalus and absorbs his essence or whatever and then later asks himself - "Who am I? You can for all intents and purposes say that the character at the end of tSoNaD is both Askari and Jianna. Again Im kind of stuck on how best to articulate this. Sorry ![]()
