Re: First Lines

Kevin didn't know why he started having the dreams, but he knew they frightened him....all the more so because he never reached their ends.

Re: First Lines

Not really a First line lol, but it's how my latest novel begins. It is inspired by a song, but changed a little to fit. It was the reason why i started the story.

“Hear my silent prayer,
Heed my quiet call,
When the darkened blues surround you.

Step into my sight,
Look inside the light,
You will know that I have found you.”

- Children’s rhyme, ‘The Assassin.’

The air was bitter tonight in Miria.

OR

This is from a VERY old story that i began when i was a teen and has been morphed and molded a dozen times over lol.

“Come on then, Ryu, You gonna’ do it or aren’t ya?”

Re: First Lines

The song is lovely - is it real, or did you invent it?

"Move it," a voice said and I looked around for something to move.

Re: First Lines

It is a real song By Secret Garden called Dreamcatcher. It was the inspiration for a whole story lol. I just tweeked it slightly.

I like your first line :P It's startling.

He opened his bloodshot eyes to the dim light of the tavern to find her silver gaze staring at him, a crossbow pointing at his throat.

"Great. What's next to screw up my day?" He said as he examined the remaining shard of his hunting knife.

"You didn't, did you" she said with venom. "I cook, I clean, I take care of the kids, I even was your bloody clothes!. I ask you to do one thing, ONE THING and you can't even do that!" she shrieked as she slammed the last of the shopping on to the table.

Thor, God of Thunder, Son of Odin, wielder of Mjollinor, soon to be widowed husband of Lorraine, hauled himself of the couch and away from the the cup final on the tele.

Re: First Lines

'Tell me of him' she whispered, a request, a plea, a craving to hear of him, that man who touched all our hearts, though not always in a good way, that man who I loved as a brother, now gone from us......

Re: First Lines

He sat up and shook off the final clutches of sleep. Even in the dim light cast by a single candle he could see the man in bed next to him was dead, blood was slowly congealing on the floor as it dripped from the sodden sheets. It must be Monday he thought.

Re: First Lines

The twin blades crashed down upon the heavy wooden table, shattering the silence which had descended on the tavern.

This is the opening line to my latest effort. (For the moment at least. )

"We'll know in five seconds," he said, lifting his glasses and peering at his stop-watch. "Five -"

And that's when everything stopped ...

Re: First Lines

It started with one crazy old man. One day he climbed to the top of the nearest hill and started calling out "GOD!" at the top of his voice, some children, thinking it a game joined him. Then some drunks from the taverns. Then some layabouts and passers by. Soon the whole district had joined him, then the neighbouring districts, then the whole city. Some joined in for fun, some had nothing better to do, others to see if anything would happen. When a voice answered, booming from the heavens, they stopped, the old man stepped out and answered...
