First Lines

As he looked up and saw the rapidly falling piano, the only thing he could think of was: This would make a great idea for a comedy sketch.

(I thought I'd try my hand at humorous writing. Although I guess it's difficult to write comedy well in novel form.)

As he pushed the piano off the rooftop, he idly wondered if there was a better way to assasinate people.

(I was inspired...)

"That's one dumb-ass assasin," Detective Jones thought to himself as he watched the man push the piano off the rooftop.

(I was doubly inspired!)

[Dexter]

The five horsemen charged recklessly through the narrow moon-lit streets, silver chain glinting from beneath dark robes as they trampled those unlucky few who were either too drunk or too daft to reach safety.

I tried to estimate the distance to the other side.Would those bushes break my fall,if I miscalculated?The inhuman screeches of my relentless pursuers reached my ears.
I jumped.

Ooooh I like it Ben.

The icy water had numbed his mind as well as his body. How much longer could he last without rescue in this freezing ocean? That was his last conscious thought.

She'd often heard men say how they wanted to die in bed but, having had one come and go like that, she knew the nightmares that awaited the surviving partner.

I lifted the visor of the helmet.
The dead eyes that stared at me were my own.
I shed a lone tear for my clone,then left.

They heard the maniacle laughter first. Then a member of their team dropped like a fly.

It was the repetitive sound of stone hitting glass that woke him - soft enough, certainly, but thrown with enough force to rouse him - and he got out of bed to see who was summoning him at such an ungodly hour.

As he put his second boot on, he remembered, with a sudden qualm, the advice about shaking them out first. With the sudden sharp pain in his toe, the advice, and everything else, became irrelevant.

I paused, taking a brief look into the mirror.
The nictitating membrane of my middle eye still looked awful.

Up until now, his life had had now meaning, but with the arrival of those creatures, everything was different.

"Okay, which of you clowns hit the big red button?" the controller of the nuclear bunker demanded.
