Character Voice Samples

Perhaps someone can help me with this. I am looking for a voice sample for a character I have in my head. Shes supposed to be a teenage girl about 14 years old. She would have no discernable accent, but sound kinda dark like Raven from Teen Titans cartoon, but I want her to feel more alive. Raven feels so emotionally void. I am looking for dark, but yet still kinda girly. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Character Voice Samples

Not sure what you're asking for.
You want an actual voice sample? Don'| you have to pay people for that sort of thing?
Wednesday from the Addams Family or the girl from Beetlejuice may fit your bill if you're just looking for ideaw however.

Re: Character Voice Samples

I mean I need suggestions as to movies or tv shows I could get my hands on and listen to. I want to extract an audio clip to listen to when I need to hear her voice in my head. Of course only I will know what I am looking for, but every little bit helps.

Re: Character Voice Samples

Sara Gilbert...good ol darlene from Roseanne...hmm, yes and now that I think of it the character itself is a good inspiration...dark, sarcastic, but still girly. I was kinda leaning a little more towards sweet but slightly disturbing like Evil Willow from Season 6 of BtVS. Any ideas anyone? Chris/Py?

Try Tula from an old Hannah/Barbera cartoon, Pirates of Dark Water - here is a link to an audio clip:

Sorry!

Only other one I can think of, as Winters Sorrow has already mentioned, is a young Christina Ricci.

Re: Character Voice Samples

Geez - I just listned to Tula - she sounds a bit like Dorothy from wizard of oz, sweet but definitely disturbing. I doubt that was the kind of disturbing you meant, though, huh?

Re: Character Voice Samples

Ever watch Reboot? Daemon Rising has a charcter, Daemon, who has a very distinct dark grily kinda voice - maybe you can rent it if you can't find audio clip

Re: Character Voice Samples

Perhaps I need to be a little more precise. I am looking for something that has well defined feminity, yet seems to have an hint of dark psychotic vileness. I want it to feel a little creepy, but not like shes evil, just a little crazy.

This is so hard, I havent had to describe this characters actual voice before....grr, suck!

Re: Character Voice Samples

How would you go about describing her voice? I'm just finding it hard to get across the concept of trying to find a voice that fits your character, and then somehow transcribing that onto the page... I would equate it not being able to describe a character until you'd seen them in a movie or magazine or whatever, when really it should be there already in your imagination.

And how do you intend to convey this 'voice'? Through the makeup of the dialogue (word choice, rythms..?) or just a plain description: Her voice was sweet, but with a hint of darkness underneath...?

BAM! You hit the nail right on the head. Perfect, kinda girly, funny, but definitely the right amount of darkness.

...and to answer your question Cul, believe me I know EXACTLy who my characters are down to not only their eating habits, but HOW they eat. I dont know if I can explain it, other than that it helps me to get into a certain groove when I need it. In fact I can't explain it at all, other than it helps me.

I do appreciate expression of your concern Cul, I take all coments into consideration.

Re: Character Voice Samples

No concern, just good old fashioned curiosity. It's just a unique approach and I wondered how it worked for you...

Re: Character Voice Samples

Yes, Faith is dead on. Thanks.

In Reply: I cant explain why I need these sound files, I know what I hear in my head, but its easier to write as if I AM the character and realistically flesh out characters when they are complete persons..with habits, an actualy voice, etc...

Now, someone wanna help me with a voice sample for this character...

This is a frankensteined concept piece in progress...

I tried Brad Garrett and The Rock, but neither seems to be right on. I am looking for big burly kinda voice...I guess even maybe Patrick Warburton. I dunno...i need some suggestions people. Much appreciated.
