I Bring Greetings and Beer! ;)

Hello everyone,

I just arrived here at the boards, and I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found this place. I am an aspiring young writer (relatively young, 24), who has a love for Science Fiction. As a young man growing up I always felt I could make a more realistic and interesting science fiction story then many of those that have crossed my lap and TV screen over the years, and about 3 years back I began my crack at it and have worked little by little when I have had time as the years have progressed.

Anyways, over time I have crafted what I believe to be a maticulous, wide, varied, detailed, and unique universe. As I find it easier to translate my ideas to paper if I can visualize it at a moments notice, I have illustrated some 40-50 pages of worlds, cities, the universe, people, ships, and everythign in between for my first book of what I hope to be many. Luckily they arn't in crayon . No I consider myself a fairly good artist. Anyhow, this post is starting to sound very egotistical .

While I have been patient in my approach, I have started to hit a wall after finsihing my outline and the first few chapters. My exuberance and motivation is simply losing steam, and I think it comes from a fact that I have no one to talk about my work with. I can't discuss ideas. I have stagnated, but I will tell you, already I can feel the creative juices starting to flow again after reading some of the posts here.

So in conclusion I want to tell everyone how happy I am to be here, hopefully I will have something for you all to critique in a year or two , and I look forward to discussing everything from antiquity to armageddon with you all.

Meowrr and Namaste. Just know that you are doomed. Escape is impossible and you really should not believe anyone who tells you they are quite sane by any accepted standard. In return we offer books, movies, music, cats and possibly chopsticks along with conversations on just about anything and everything along with peanuts, cakes, chocolate and whisky.

As for the basement, please feel free to visit. We're always hungering for visitors. A visit to the attic would be fine so long as you bring a basket of Gorgonzola with you. If you wish to bring any other kind of cheese check with Chrispenycate first. A visit to the piranha pool would require you to read them a chapter from Moby Dick. You might want to check with JD to see where to begin since they do not like to have the same bits read over.

Come visit the Tea Room and tell us about your favourite authors, movies, music ... It's always a good idea to bring something intriguing for the cat when visiting.

Re: I Bring Greetings and Beer! ;)

You're actually allowed to be egotistical in this thread - it's your personal territory (at least, it is until the thread deviators lay their hands on it; then anything can happen)
We can (and generally do) critique unfinished works; if you read some of the other threads in "critiques" you'll see what I mean, Just don't let it scare you; however bad we are (and pirahnas squueze into protective burrows at the rumour of our passing) professional editors/publishers are ten times worse. (you can also joinin in deflating the egos of other prospective New York Times bestsellers - you'd be surprised at what you can learn about the beam in your eye from studying other's splinters)
And, while I agree Sturgeons laws still holds, there is still some very good reading out there (both on the basis of plot ideas and writing quality and even, very occasionally, both.
Beer? From the West Coast? I'm ready to concede (under duress) that a few drinkable wines come from that corner of the world but… come across to the tea room. I think we've still got some Belgian in the fridge, or in the cupboard (if you like Geuze, it's a crime to chill it) We'll show you what beer is. (Well, all right, I haven't been to California since before you were born; perhaps the beer has evolved some, since. But my memories of the first beer after getting back from an American tour - Ahh.)
Iwas supposed to welcome you, wasn't I? (I see the cat got in while I was constructing this magnum opus) Well, you are (welcome, that is, not feline) and doubtless others will swarm in to tell you the same, as their time zones mesh. One of them can handle the warnings; I've paid my dues.
Lots going on here, join in and there'll be still more.
*wanders of muttering about "should I have asked about his taste in books, an'all? No, anyone can do that, let him believe there's some rationality here, he'll learn the truth fast enough…*

Great Post! Am I allowed to applaud posts in my own thread . Of course I am!

As for Beer on the west coast, I don't drink that flavored water much :P. I'm a pure mountain man from the Rockies originally, and I pride myself on knowing that I hail from a place that has a good long history of great beer brewing (they hold the great American Beer Festival in my birth place, and I will admit, that history I was talkign about is not nearly as long or as illustrious as yours ). Anyways, I'm a wheat beer guy myself but love a good Stout or Ale when the time calls for it.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and I will tell ya I like some of your posts already concerning physics and space, very knowledgeable. Take care.

EDIT: Oh, and don't worry about my delicate self image, I love a good critique. Only way you learn, and the best way to become better. Bring on the harsh and razor sharp words.

I see you got here, then! And you've already met the mysterious Cat, (you may be permitted, in time, to scratch her gently behind the ears until she graciously allows you to desist!), SpaceShip, usually attached to the pulchritudinous Phœbe, and our resident sesquipedalianist, chris.

(These are some of the more sensible ones - you have been warned! Mwahahaha....!)

Anyway dig in! enjoy, and keep an eye on that clock - you'll be amazed when you find out how quickly it moves on in here!

I've just realised I let quite a few introduction threads slip by... so I'll start again with this.

Welcome to the Chrons, Riddermark!
