Short story market

I thought this might be of interest:

http://mzbworks.home.att.net/s22.htm

I know a lot of writers who made their first professional sales to MZB anthologies, and though Marion herself is gone, I suspect that Lisa Waters, who is editing this one, will want to carry on that tradition, at least to the extent of being willing to look at stories by unknown or relatively unknown writers. And it pays 5 cents a word.

(But if you're interested, read the guidelines. When they say they're looking for a certain kind of story, going by previous incarnations of this anthology they really mean it.)

Re: Short story market

Thank you for the link.

I am going to throw my hat into the ring once they start accepting submissions and see what comes of it!

Re: Short story market

Thanks for the link, Teresa. I have a story ready to go, just need to do another couple of read throughs. Fingers crossed. The turn round time is short, so my fingernails won't be too bitten before I get the rejection.

Thanks, Teresa. It has just gone, along with two other short stories to a couple more anthologies. We shall see.

Re: Short story market

Story got rejected, but I turned it round and sent it elsewhere.

I have three other short stories out and one flash fiction

I have, though, sold another Flash fiction story.

Re: Short story market

Well, I must thank you for sharing this, Teresa!

I know I'm getting around to reading this thread a little late, but if I had been smart enough to check it earlier I might have had something to submit. Sadly, both of my stories that are about a swordswoman are already submitted elsewhere (although Apex should be responding anytime now).

So, anyway, from now on I'll keep a sharp eye on this board. I really do appreciate your post.

Re: Short story market

Sorry about the double post, but . . .

Yay! I've submitted "Hex Moon" to SS22, and just in time too - I hope.

Seems Apex had tried to reply a while ago but for some reason it never got through. So, when I queried them, I got a second reply explaining what had happened, and a polite "this isn't what we're looking for right now." I had expected that the probability of rejection was even higher than normal with Apex, since they are a sci-fi magazine. I thought I'd try anyway because the guidelines say that they sometimes accept dark fantasy.
