| Hello I've been reading SF since I can remember - like "Mrs. Wiggins Goes to Mars" (shame she got back). I have strong interests in history and love political intrigue, but I can't do without SF for too long. My library is pretty scanty now - events forced the sale of hundreds of books and magazines in yesrs past. But I've read way back into the 1920's. Can't say I'd do it again, though, the material was pretty bad. My background is in electronics and computers, so I go after the harder SF. That's why my favorite SF movie is "Forbidden Planet". The effects are good - that's what it should look like when you disintegrate a tiger - and the klystron that the monster breaks is a real klystron. I'll pop in from time to time. Lots of stuff on the site! |

| Re: Hello Hello, Chun... Um, haven't you finished that tapestry yet? *worried smiley* Welcome to the Chronicles. I see you've already made your presence felt around here... Hmmm. I could make a very bad pun about how that's un-you-know-what... but I'll leave that one ... (for now )Glad to have you aboard, and I look forward to seeing you around.... (by the way... you're not related to the Gibbelins... are you? ) |

| Re: Hello Meowrr and Namaste. Just know that you are doomed. Escape is impossible and you really should not believe anyone who tells you they are quite sane by any accepted standard. In return we offer books, movies, music, cats and possibly chopsticks along with conversations on just about anything and everything along with peanuts, cakes, chocolate and whisky. ![]() ![]() Come visit the Tea Room and tell us about your favourite authors, movies, music ... It's always a good idea to bring something intriguing for the cat when visiting. |

| resident pedantissimo | Re: Hello Yes, yes. I know, I'm late, but it takes me longer than most to get a welcome post written, and I've actually been doing some work done And along with a rash of introductions eveybody's decided to get [I]critiqed[/I for Valentine's day - I hope they weren't expecting me to be nice to anybody. So, forbidden planet; is that the original black and white version, or has there been a more recent one? And what hard SF authors do you/have you particularly appreciate(d)? And was it only backward or have you been keeping up with more recent works? Not that it'll make any difference, you're very welcome anyway(I occasionally feel somewhat outnumbered by the fantasy contingent, but they need the numerical advantage to hold their own, poor things. Rational thought is acceptable round here, but I wouldn't anticipate it as a standard situation, and if indulging, try to sit upwind of those revelling in chaos. |
