Valentines day

Ok, so it's 2 days away

Anyone got any really great ideas or surprises in store for thier partners. The best one I've heard of so far (on the radio today) is a chap who's bought his partner a £500,000 holiday home. And he's gift wrapped it.

But for us mere mortals who think in terms of chocolates and flowers what are people doing?

Re: Valentines day

Blimey! Gift wrapped as well!

I hate Valentine's day with a passion. It's so commerical and tacky. People should show each other how much they care for someone all year round, not just on one exploitative day.

Ok, rant over.

However, I am hopefully doing a Flash Mob on Valentines day. I'll be meeting randomly with loads of other people in the town centre. The girls will stand at the top of the steps outside the local W.H Smiths, the boys will stand at the bottom, we will perform a short section from Romeo and Juliet, and then we will disperse!

Re: Valentines day

Or be dispersed...

I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day either but you do look a heel if you do absolutely nothing on it (which I am so tempted to).
No overly elaborate schemes though - still blooming paying for christmas!!

Re: Valentines day

My husband and I met on V-day, 16 years ago (married 6m later), so we do kind of celebrate. We don't go for all the cutesy hearts and flowers though. Something simple, like a middle of the week date night.

Re: Valentines day

One of the reasons I was asking is that I've just bought my partner a pair of Wellington boots. I know it's not very romantic but they are much needed.

Re: Valentines day

Valentine's Day is little more than a love letter that Big Business sends itself every year on February 14. And you, the consumer, foot the bill for the postage.

Agreed but I think I am fooling Big Business, because unlike flowers and chocolates they didn't think to inflate the price of wellington boots

Except for the ones with the pink heart or "Hello Kitty" appliques sewn on them!

I agree - apparently it's "do something nice for someone" week. So as well as Valentine's Day (and those of us who will not be getting a card or half a mil pressy) let's do something nice for someone instead!

And love the sound of the Flash Mob - feedback on what happens Hoops.

Re: Valentines day

I'm ignoring it, as a certain woman is currently more than ten thousand miles away

Re: Valentines day

I think I take the same stance as Rane... except I'm going to make another Valentine's flash animation. And yes, it's going to be 3 minutes of my awful dry humour.

Here's the one from last year, if anyone's interested:

The Ineffable Lenny - Home

The animation is the third one down - "Happy Valentine's Day".

Sadly that's the link to the old site - something is wrong with the new one, and I'm trying to fix it.

EDIT: It seems to be working now: The Ineffable Lenny - Flash Animations

If it doesn't, then go for the first link instead.

BIG problem for me with my leg in plaster. I might be able to persuade a friend to get me something, but the things I buy usually need the personal touch. So far I've managed to get a card without her noticing.

Re: Valentines day

Hubby and I never do anything elaborate. Usually a card to acknowledge that we aren't forgetting or ignoring but consciously not participating with the holiday. And, since his b-day is today, he's no need of more gifts.

Oh I don't know, he might want spoiling Then again men are much more difficult to buy for than women in my opinion.
