Re: Valentines day Well I try Flowers don't keep your feet dry in the country. The best one I ever heard was a woman down my local. She sounded really chuffed about the present her husband had given her. I asked her what it was and she proudly told me... a chainsaw!

Re: Valentines day I still remember an elderly lady I used to vist, telling me of the time she visited her son and daughter-in-law on V-day. He'd got a card, but she hadn't sent it. As the happy couple are giving each other the silent treatment and avoiding each other, her five-year-old granddaughter climbs into her lap, "Granny, I sent Daddy a Valentine card." "Well, I think you'd better tell Mummy before she kills him."

Re: Valentines day we don't do valentines day anymore, we used to when we were younger (lord I sound old, and I'm only 30!), but now we save for the kids birthday's instead. CHildren are expensive. As are two dozen red roses which will die coz I don't water them. And it's a marketing con also. Hehehe, he sent me red roses the first year we were together, and I said "That's nice, thanks, but can I have a book token next year." Apparently I was meant to fall into his arms...ooops!

Re: Valentines day Here, here I started out giving cuddly toys and what not (never one for flowers just don't see the point of something that will die in a few days) but these days Weave would be lucky if she gets a card. I think most days like these are just marketing ploys from card companies.

Re: Valentines day I too will take a book over flowers, chocolates etc... You people should come to Japan to see some overcommercialisation of Valentine, it's sickening really. 14 Feb is for the girls to buy chocolates for the guys, and next 14 March is the guys turn. For myself, I'm not getting anything for anyone LOL, but guess all the girls in the office will share funds to get the guys something as I'm sure the guys will give us chocolates next month. I asked if there is a reason to the separate celebration, seems no, snack companies just want to sell more!

Re: Valentines day Worst/best one I had was when I was stuck in Belfast working and living in a hotel. I needed to eat out so ended up in a Mexican restaurant that served the best margaritas. I know they were good because I was sitting there reading the new TP hardback of Jingo I had bought that day. Over coffee i found myself thinking that the reason the restaurant wasn't busy could have something to do with the smell of burning coming from the kitchen...... It was only when the flames appeared over the top of my book that I realised the burning had been the dust cover that had been perched above the candle on the table. At least it was a bit easier to read with the brighter light. Still got the book with the burnt dust cover as proof.

When I did have someone to celebrate with I usually cooked a meal or had a meal vooked or shared the cooking and bought a book. |
