3.13: Taking a Break from All Your Worries

What a treat to see an episode directed by Edward James Olmos! Olmos's quick intercutting between various scenes, and his concentrated use of tight shots on people's faces, gives this episode a visual and emotional intensity that's somewhat different from the rest of the series. And Mary McDonnell plays Laura Roslin's anger more strongly and openly, too, which adds to the intensity.

A question: was Laura Roslin lying on Adama's bed? What's that about?

I was pretty disappointed. Mostly pure soap opera, will he/won't she.

Peyton Place in SPAAAAAACE.

Re: 3.13: Taking a Break from All Your Worries

I loved the look into how Baltar's dealing with the stuff he's been through and the stuff he's done, and how he feels about having done it, since he either felt like he had no other choice or didn't even know at the time he was doing it. That was great TV for any show, and some of the best material this show's given us in its whole run.

It's just too bad that it had to share an episode with Yet Another Soap Opera Episode. Gewd gawd, that stuff just keeps going and going and going...

Only if he sleeps alfresco. They were lying under the stars.

Sorry, I didn't like this either. It seems like they have run out of story in the last two or three stories. The New Caprica and aftermath episodes were very good, but this soap opera stuff I can do without. I hope Adama can put his speech into practice. There was also a little bit of retconning going on here which I didn't like.

Under the stars? I thought they were definitely inside a room, and she was lying on a greenish pillow, and he was sitting on the bed near her, wearing his uniform. She looks at him and says something like "So we give him [Baltar] his trial." Where could they be under the stars aboard ship?

I could be wrong, but I thought the "greenish pillow" was a rolled up shirt. I thought they were on New Caprica outside a tent. Baltar had just given his speech earlier. I thought it was another flashback. I did find those multipul flashbacks difficult to follow though, so apologies if I'm wrong.
