Heroes Season I, Part 2

Heroes is back and was broadcast Monday Jan 22, 2007 in the US. Please discuss your thoughts here.

BookStop commented on last night's episode on the old Heroes thread:

Anyone catch last night's episode? Hiro is so fun - I adore him! I'm glad Clair is starting to figure some things out for herself. Linderman keeps turning up - Do you think he has a power too?

Re: Heroes Season I, Part 2

What I really think is that Linderman is somehow behind all of this. But I'm not quite sure he's a bad guy. The narration at the beginning of this show seemed to be looking back at the beginning of something. I still hold hope (fear?) that we are going to wind up with some alien presence pulling strings behind the scenes for some inscrutiable, possibly, but only possibly, sinister purpose.

I was a little ticked at last night's episode. It seemed like it was hopping all over the place more than usual. Perhaps they were hoping that there would be many first time viewers and wanted them to get on a lot of the ongoing story lines.

For some odd reason, I get the feeling that Linderman is related somehow to CGM (creepy glasses man), just a hunch type of thing though, no solid evidence to back it up.

As far as hopping around, perhaps they were helping us older folks remember what had gone before

Nikki/Jessica bother me. Hers is the only talent that is truly related to and intwined in her past, it doesn't seem a useful talent or even a genetic mutation like the others. Maybe she is just abnormal due to her past and not genetically different like the others. We haven't seen the full list yet so she may not be on it.

Oh, good point!!! She more possessed than being in possession of a gift. In fact she only shows a gift [super strength & cunning] when the evil Nikki (Nikki is the evil one, right?) is in control. I found it interesting that Jessica said "She's here." about Nikki in prison, as if she thought that Nikki was some entirely other "person." Maybe she is?

Re: Heroes Season I, Part 2

The thing that seemed different about Nikki last time (Jessica is the bad one) is it almost seemed like Nikki was in control of the super strength for a moment when she caught the club and broke it in two. Either that or Jessica is making really short appearances. Maybe Nikki can over-power her alter-ego and control her power eventually. I'm not even sure that Nikki's split personality has much to do with the super power. Maybe if she wasn't gifted, she'd still have a dark side because of her past, and it's just an unfortunate coincedence.

I think Linderman is CGM's boss. CGM can't be trusted simply because he seems to be following orders from someone (Linderman?), but I don't think of him as the bad guy anymore. He obviously loves his daughter and may flip later in the series once he finds out what his boss's goal is.

I made a prediction a while back that Nikki's only talent was super strength and she just happens to have Multiple Personality Disorder. The only flaw is that one time that tatoo symbol showed up while she was Jessica. Still, other episodes fleshed out that the MDP started before her gift. Maybe the folks that were kidnaping people manipulated her and had more sucess working with Jessica than Nikki

"Jessica" was also the name of Nikki's sister that died if I remember correctly.

ScottSf, you are making complete sense. I had forgotten about the tattoo, but kidnappers manipulating Jessica is a sound explination - now if the show would only give us answers instead of only questions!

The tattoo is the same as the symbol on the sword that Hiro tried to steal. And the same as the symbol on the necklace that Mind-Wipe guy wears. Hiro's friend translated it as "Godsend" or . . . I forget the second translation. Does anyone remember?

Re: Heroes Season I, Part 2

I don't remember the exact translation (senility already?) but it generally came to "a gift from God" or somesuch. Hinting that these genetic mutations were specifically designed by God (or some higher being) for some purpose. Which also brings back the possible alien influence. Wouldn't aliens who are able to manipulate our genes be considered godlike?

The tattoo and symbol on the sword hint at an ancient cult/religion (as that sword was centuries old).

Re: Heroes Season I, Part 2

The thing that we seem to be forgetting here is that the list was being compiled before any of the "talents" were seen. The list was following a genetic map which would also seem to indicate that we have the first flowering of some sort of plan (I'm convinced we are not talking about an unplanned next step of evolution) that was being worked out for at least a couple of generations.

I can't believe they brought Silar back - I hope the cop discovers the others soon - Do you think Jessica is about to escape? - Will any questions ever be answered on this show?

Silar never left. That girl shot herself so he wouldn't get her power.

Silar's powers are getting strange. He's exhibited a few now that are the same as those of our other main characters, but he hasn't killed them yet. Are there only a certain numbers of types of power that multiple people have each of? Claire's mother lighting a cigarette without a lighter certainly resembles Radiation Guy's power...

Re: Heroes Season I, Part 2

The symbol is a very curious thing. It pops up all over the place it appears not just the sword and on Jessica.

Here's a list from Google:

The symbol appears most frequently throughout the series. In episode 12 (Godsend), the symbol is revealed by Ando Masahashi to be a combination of two Japanese characters: ? (sai) meaning "great talent" and ? (yo) meaning "Godsend". It also greatly resembles a segment of RNA, connecting it to the genetic mutation giving the heroes their powers. Appearances include:

* As a decorative object in the Bennets' home
* In a swimming pool at the scene of one of Sylar's murders. Several flotation devices form the shape.
* On a billboard behind Hiro in Times Square when he teleports there.
* Frequently on a computer screen, scrolling across a genetic profiling program created by Chandra Suresh.
* On a drawing done by Peter Petrelli.
* On various paintings by Isaac Mendez.
* On a post-it note on the map in Mohinder Suresh's apartment.
* Written on a geometry textbook owned by Claire Bennet.
* Written on pictures in Sylar's apartment.
* On Jessica's back whenever she surfaces as Niki's alternate personality. Whether the symbol is also present on Niki's back is unknown.
* On the hilt of a katana once owned by 16th-century samurai Takezo Kensei, possibly the earliest known manifestation of the symbol. This katana is held by future Hiro and sought by present Hiro. The symbol also appears on the replica of the sword, which was stolen from the museum by Hiro.
* Printed on the front of Chandra Suresh's book, Activating Evolution.
* Printed on the upper-left corner of the 14th issue of 9th Wonders! comic book, written by Isaac Mendez.
* On a necklace worn by the Haitian.
* On a picture of Niki as "Jessica", painted by Isaac. The symbol was hidden under an extra layer of paint.
* Drawn on a Greyhound bus sign, seen right before D.L. spots the runaway Micah in the episode Homecoming.
