Imo, he's the best character in the series so far. I wonder how long it will take viewers to discover that he's not just in the story, but that he is the story.

If this series is made, if this series lasts at least three seasons, if the actor playing Tyrion nails it, then the actor chosen to play Tyrion will be lauded and hailed by the entertainment industry. I think this is the role of a lifetime for someone.
Thanks Boaz, and I totally agree with the above. That would be my only reservation with Dinklage playing Tyrion. He's a good actor, granted, but Tyrion is truly dynamic and I'm not absolutely certain Dinklage has the chops.

I quiver with anticipation at seeing the best character in the lot, Tyrion, portrayed in a TV series.

He is everything Boaz aptly described him to be. Hope they get it right.

For the most part you've made some decent suggestions... but Monica Bellucci? Far too beautiful to play Lysa. Remember, Lysa was pretty once, but now she is frumpy and sallow and past it. By a long way. It'd be a crime to make Monica Bellucci play Lysa.

She may be a little old (mid forties) to play Lysa Arryn, but I think Emma Thompson would be brilliant. Manic, conniving, childish, worrysome, over protective, jealous, under sexed, and more...

The suggestion was not based on her beauty, but what I've seen of her acting ability, and the fact that she has a similar look to Lena and that she could be convincing as a once beautiful woman corrupted by the designs of her circumstances. If you've seen the Brothers Grimm, you know she can look beautiful one moment, hideous the next. Granted, some of the actors I chose were based on the look, but Monica Bellucci is a very capable actress, and I picked her based on the fact that she could probably portray the part of Lysa well; with that detached, almost numb reservation.

Because makeup artists don't have the ability to make a beautiful woman look like something she's not? I take it you've never seen Monster with Charlize Theron?

Monica Belucci would make a much better Melisandre than Lysa Tully-Arryn, even Princess Arianne - tho i personally think she's too old to be Arianne...

Melisandre is an old soul, so to speak, and I don't feel Bellucci would be able to capture her character as well. As I said before, I had more recommendations but didn't have the time to put them down. I actually had a recommendation for Melisandre but had to cut my post short. I would love to see her played by Annebella Sciorra Annabella Sciorra (not only is she beautiful, but she is much younger than Bellucci and she also has that beauty about her that has a hint of darkness)

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

annabella could work well as Melisandre... tho she looks older than Monica (IMHO)...
I think i just have an issue with Monica and the actress you suggested for Catelyn... both have dark hair and it clearly suits them... yet Catelyn and Lysa have auburn hair, and thats a look that not many women, let alone actresses can pull off well... i certainly don't think Monica could - her colouring is all wrong for red hair... and Lysa's hair is the one thing about her beauty that she has NOT lost.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

Annabella Sciorra was awesome as Tony Soprano's manic, depressed, undersexed (and sometimes oversexed), highly ambitious, volitile, childish, psychotic girlfriend. Hmmm, kinda sounds the same as my description of Lysa Arryn.

Anyway, look at our discussion just on Lysa Arryn and imagine the casting director's job to fill in a series with an enormous cast. Good Luck, HBO!

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

Aye. I just hope that the reason HBO decided to do this series was because there were some fans of ASoIaF within their company. It really needs a fan's touch. So many popular pieces of literature are transfered to the big (or small) screen and come off as soulless; obvious attempts at profiting off of the particular work's popularity.

Yes, great option. He does have that menacing sophistication Tywin presents. He'd be around the right age, and he's still not bad looking... which would be a requisite for the father of the Golden Twins.
