I don't think there could ever have been a better setup for a "yo momma" joke in the entire history of mankind.

I don't think Brienne necessarily has to be ugly as such, just plain, or boy-ish. Not a coventional beauty, but not ran into the back of a dump truck ugly...

With a description like that i can think of only one woman capable... 170lbs, 6'-ish - Joanie Laurer - Chyna from the WWE... Butt Ugly and definitely big enough... eeeww... but sounds perfect from the stats... still - eeeww...

She is described as rather ugly... big ears, flat chest, horsey features... hardly just plain... Even Catelyn couldn't think of her as plain and she liked Brienne.

Not saying she wasn't descrbed as ugly in the books, just that she doesn't necessarily have to be so in the series....

fair enough... i'll admit, I'd rather not see any butt ugly people in the series... TV ugly sure, but general public butt ugly no thanks... TV Ugly usually is plain jane.

You know, he's not a good actor, but The Rock's physical attributes scream Khal Drogo to me. Dressed as he was in the Scorpian King is always how I've seen Khal Drogo in my mind.

Joanie Laurer as Brienne? I'll second that.

But Dennis Rodman's got an even bigger bod, and he's not as good looking as Joanie, and he doesn't mind dressing in drag.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

The problem with Chyna playing Brienne is that she doesn't have the acting chops to do it. It's gonna take some inventive casting to do the whole series correctly.

It may be that we lose alot of characters in the translation. I can't imagine the average viewer being able to keep up with all of the characters and plotlines. Reading is easier because you get more detail and nuance that can't be shown on film. Then again maybe they'll just be cameo appearances that only us harcore GRRM fans will catch, eh?

i'd imagine, book events that include multiple characters who have their own POVs - of which there are quite a few in Winterfell at the beginning and in Kings Landing throughout the story, would be dealt with in one single segment or episode and give a non-pov sort of perspective... that way the extensive character list can be managed... also MANY of the minor characters don't even need lines or anything other than being there. WE who know the books will recognise them, but the lay-person not familiar with the books won't notice the lack of the immense cast of basically extras in the books.
I also think that the minor POV characters - unfortunately this includes everyone who is NOT a Stark or a Lannister or a Targaryan named Dany will be relegated to these cameo characters... Brienne and Davos being likely the only ones that get significant screen time... i also predict a scale-back on the Greyjoys... they do rather dilute the story in the earlier books where Theon has POVs... or they could be intro'd later after the Starks start dying off - which is kind of what happened in the books, but Ned was the only dead stark when we start getting Theon.

Back to my original intent for this thread. I present Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister.
