| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? LOL! By the time the series starts filming, McKidd will be too old to play Ned I agree with Rane, I doubt they'll be many recognizable faces as cast members. We can hold out hope there's someone of quality thats a real fanboy and will do it for cheap, but its more likely that Danny Bonaduce will be begging on Entertainment Tonight to play the Hound.... |

Martin may be American, but the whole series is heavily influenced by British and European history - the War of the Roses in particular. I'd like to know how Martin hears tham speak. I'd fancy - and from the dialogue it would seem likely - it would be with the accents of Europe.

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? Culhwch, to an extent I agree with you, but for some reason I would assume that westeros has its own accent. That being said, If Tywin sounds like Bush I'll gladly shoot myself. American Author, but HBO will give them British accents. I have no doubt about that, Even though I'd love to hear the Starks sound like Canadians. (I'm from Wisconsin so my accent isnt much different lol) Well minus the "aina hey". If America perchance had a recorded mideval history things may have been different. But look where it is suposedly to be filmed... and its based on the war of the roses not the civil war. (I'm pretty sure the starks arent navy blue and the lannisters arent grey) Bah! I'll be happy to see it on film regardless. The accents dont matter, but the plot and acting does. So long as Dolorous Edd gets to make his comment about Craster's Keep i dont care if he pronounces it Sh*t or Sh*ite. |

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? Well that's not entirely true. He was born in Lebanon to an English mother. His father is an Irish/Hawaiian-Portuguese-Chinese American. He grew up in Canada. He is eligible for American and British citizenship but he identifies himself as a Canadian. : P |

Ned: "Hey, Cat. You say the garburator's on the blink? Musta been Halder, eh? I've seen live bait smarter'n that s**t disturber." Greatjon: "If you can't get laid in Winterfell, you're just lazy, eh." Howland Reed: "Is Greywater Watch wet, eh? Well the official flower is mildew." But we all hear ourselves as normal. And actually I'd hate to hear the following... Grenn: "Dude, I could like, totally go goofy foot and pull a sick pop tart on this bullet proof Wall, bro." Sansa: "Shaaaa!" Arya: "Holla! Yo, wat up J-dog!" Brienne: "Damn hell! Ahm gonna git me one of them thar Valeerian Steel Blades. I swear ah am!" Jon: "Ya'll known better thana hitum inna het. Stickum wita poiny eend." Ned: "Lookit cheer, Robert. Ya'll doin it bassackerds... ah mean, it's all side whickerty... put thet doohickey thar and thet thingamajiggy all cattywhompus an ya'll gonna have more hell'n a little bit." Well, who's for a silent movie? Or in Mandarin with subtitles?

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? (OK, I'm covering alot here.) I mean, when you grow up in Winnipeg, you can't get more Canuck than that. It's OK Keanu....they didn't mean anything by it, you're still as Canadian as they come in my book. (WHOA! EXCELLENT!) And what you got against my man Viggo? I never thought any LOTR characters were supposed to have accents until the movies came along (except when speaking elvish or dwarvish I suppose). Whatever. Xalabar Xho: "This place is shaazzaaaammm!" Old Nan: "Hey hoser, pass me a beer, eh!" I guess, just don't have too many expectations as to how it will look and sound and you won't be disappointed. And I can just hear the purists bitch and complain already. You can create with your own S.P.E.W. but for ASOIF. Case in point, LOTR. Those movies were not even out yet and their were riots in the streets of Oxford |

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? 'Strewth, mate,' said Ned. 'I mean, come on, Bob. You want me to be the bloody Hand?' 'Don't come the raw prawn with me, Nezza,' Robert said. 'Youse'd be tops.' 'I dunno,' Ned replied. 'Go to the big smoke? Nah, you can have it, with all those posh bloody 'cafes' and ya la-de-da 'indoor plumbing'.' I don't know, I think it works.... Okay, TK, I'll withdraw Keanu and offer instead Brad Pitt in a double bill: The Devil's Own and Seven Years in Tibet. But seriously, of course I have expectations to how it will look and sound. I read the books, after all. It's all in there. For me it's a case of breaking the spell. If something grates, I won't be convinced, and my enjoyment will be lessened. And I suspect that American accents would do that. But I could be wrong, and if they feature and - heaven forbids - it works, I'll be in here, foot firmly wedged in mouth. |

Catelyn " No, till I get you through the stop n go lights dont ya know" Rickon: "who knew" ok I surrender Edit: Boaz never take credit for Indiana, I was in Grad school (Bloomington or err bulmgnington) when Fargo came out they all assumed i was canadian, and rigthfully so. I didnt understand the accent for 12 months. Stupid Badger, I'll fully admidt. |

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? We have accents in Indiana? Just kidding I have trouble understanding people around here sometimes, and I have lived here my whole life. Cully: Just an obervation, you say you have an expectation how it will look and sound. We all do and I am sure they are all different depending on where in the world you live. As I jokingly said before, when I read these books no one has a British accent. I am sure it's different for all of us. They are going to break lots of peoples spells. With that being said,if they made the series with any accent I wouldn't care as long as the series is done well. |

| Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? I would quite like to see Patrick Stewart playing Ned. Or a Tywin, I reckon he could be quite menacing. Great Actor. Oooh, I know, that bloke who played Spock could play Ned. :P |
