Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

I think the real problem would be Daenerys. She'd have to be quite young, barely older than a Sansa character, but undeniably beautiful and equally talented to pull off such a role. I predict that they'll have to cast a slightly older girl in the role.

Then again, HBO is not known for shying away from sensitive issues, so maybe we will see a 13 year old run across the Dothraki sea and get pregnant, but personally that's not something I think I want to see. It goes better in print.

TK, Ed Norton was in Kingdom of Heaven... an utterly forgettable piece. But I mentioned Ed Burns... Ye daft git! Gerrout me forums when yer sloshed!

As for Dany, we need someone like Alison Lohman in Matchstick Men. She was 23 playing a an 18 year old pretending to be 14 years old... She was very convincing. HBO likes to push the limit, but Dany's wedding night would be more palatable if she was 17 and not 13 years old.

i think it'd have to go this route. americans are generally prudish and VERY uncomfortable with acknowledging that teenagers have sex. if they get an underage girl acting sex scenes with a 30 year old, the protests alone would likely cancel the series. i wouldn't be surprised to see ALL the ages moved upwards for the series.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

What we need for Dany is a Mena Suvari-type in American Beauty. Awesome film and she was 20 playing a beautiful high school girl of about 17 or so. She's too old now but she's the type we need when she was 20.

Mena Suvari

And I know you said Ed Burns, a forgettable actor himself, but I was simply saying that Ed Norton played a role similar to the character of Doran Martell in Kingdom of Heaven. Yes, the movie was forgettable.

Need another coffee...

I agree, but I'm not apoligizing at all for American mores and scruples.

Wiggs, I could picture Jorah addressing the Dothraki...

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-fullered Valyrian. Bear-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Bear Island, Westeros. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue valyrian steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop Bear-Mart. You got that?

What were those Free Cities? Qohor, Volanits, Nor... Necktie... Neckturn... Nickel... It's an "N" word, it's definitely an "N" word!

Look, I love Bruce Campbell.

I'm one of the few people that not only owns Evil Dead II, I own Evil Dead (And, of course, Army of Darkness).

I couldn't take Ash seriously.

Bruce Campbell instantly makes me laugh no matter what he's doing.

Which I mean as a compliment.

In his Not A Blog, GRRM muses whether Rowan Atkinson would be available for the HBO series. He sees him as Varys.

A good choice if you ask me.

In his younger days he might have made a fairly decent Littlefinger... But, yeah, I could see him as Varys.

Not big enough to be "The Mountain", but Bardem could fit some psychopathic killer in this series somewhere.

I didn't think Nicole Kidman could be a good anything.

Is it known already?

How about Tilda Swinton for Melisandre?

Bardem needs to be in there somewhere.

Nicole Kidman could be Joanna Lannister.
