Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

Ok, I am new here and have only read through the the most recent two books one time, but I would like to throw out my opinion for Daenerys...

Alison Lohman (Matchstick Men, White Oleander, Big Fish)-
Alison Lohman

I know that she is old for the part (27) but almost every movie she plays in she is cast as younger. She looks young (see Matchstick Men, she was 24ish) but she acts maturely. Can't say that this isn't somewhat selfish selection since she is my favorite. She is beautiful, yet innocent. She can still have power on screen too. Perfect in my opinion. Also she is little known so she could possibly do it.

Does anyone agree? Make sure to look at a pic of her in Matchstick Men for her age.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

I am just a newbie, but I would like to throw out an actress to play Dany-

Alison Lohman (White Oleander, Big Fish, and Matchstick Men)

She is 27 but played a 13 year old when she was 24 and she looks young. This could go for her playing young or if they go the way of aging everyone. She is mature enough to play this pivotal role and is beautiful in an innocent way. She can also become more mature feeling easily. If you have seen Matchstick men you can see her talent IMO.

Anyway, this is just my opinion.

As far as accent goes, I think that the reason that Americans may not be as good at playing Brits is because accents are less important here. You can fit in to your surroundings easily no matter your accent. They don't place you as well (although there are certainly accents here that do place people) as they do in the UK. At least it is a theory. I don't think that Brits are better at American accents as much as American accents don't matter so much so it is easier to get by.

I say they go with American accents since Martin is American. Either that or just have them be regional.

Didn't Patrick Stewart play Gurney in the original Dune movie? Man that was bad.

Alan Rickman as Vargo Hoat. That voice mixed with the wicked lisp would be great. And he's had plenty of practice playing the worm.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series?

Cersei Lannister - Nicole Kidman
Jaime Lannister - Josh Holloway
Tyrion Lannister - Stijn Keuleers
Tywin Lannister - Patrick Stewart
Sandor Clegane - Vigo Mortensen
Gregor Clegane - Russell Crow (on stilts, wearing a fat suit)
Ilyn Payne - Daniel Craig
Barristan Selmy - Sean Connery
Eddard Stark - John Corbett
Catelyn Stark - Kate Beckinsale

You know it makes sense... The younger characters I don't have an idea on; probably best to pull in some new blood, eh?
