Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? Okay, go ahead and disparage Toby's acting chops all you want... that's an untenable position to defend. I still like his music. I know his accent is wrong, but what about Antonio Banderas for Littlefinger or even Renly (he's a little old for Renly, but he could do it).

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? He would be good for the Onion Knight; I could almost see him in that part. Renly really needs someone with a different presence. (to be honest, he and Stannis would be hard to cast; they are two characters you don't see often enough, but when you do, they command the attention of the reader)

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? I think Banderas could play Salladhor Saan, or possibly Syrio Forel, though he's a bit beefy for the latter. Not Davos, he's more of a salt of the earth type. I'd have to think on who could play him...

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? F. Murray Abraham would be perfect for Syrio. Antonio is indeed too beefy. I could still see Antonio as Davos, but maybe that's because I'm envisioning him from the 13th Warrior and would like to see him in another, similarly styled role. Salladhor I couldn't begin to pair with an actor, which is due to the fact that his image is a bit cloudy in my mind's eye. Also, thinking about the younger cast again, I could probably see Julianna Rose Mauriello as Daenerys Targaryen. Some of you are probably looking at me sideways right now, but any fathers out there may already be familiar with Julianna's portfolio. She playes Stephanie on Noggin's "Lazy Town," and though her part on that series is quite the opposite spectrum, she could definitely pull off Daenerys's role well. At her age she's an accomplished actress and it would mean no Dakota Fanning ( > < ). Though she is sixteen, Mauriello looks undeniably younger and has a very innocent appearance that would play well to Daenerys's character.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? The problem I have with Antonio as Davos is his ethnicity - I would cast him as Dornish or from the East. If he leaned up a bit he could do a passable Oberyn Martell.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? There is definitely an argument there. To the day Antonio has been unable to supress his accent effectively, and he is undeniably Latin in appearance. Instead of trying to place him in the cast, however, let's forget we even mentioned putting him there to begin with.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? He's a very large southern man that plays country music. He's infamous for his feud with the Dixie Chicks and the song he wrote after the 9/11 attacks (which was the catalyst for the feud).

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? Staying off topic... Natalie Maines of the Chicks called Keith's song ignorant though song had no mention of Maines or the Chicks. Imo, she's antagonistic and he's bull headed and it was all down hill from there. Naming Toby Keith was just a joke. Singers all want to be movie stars. Athletes want to be movie stars. Reality TV freaks all want to be movie stars. Some people actually have talent in multiple areas of performing... like Julie Andrews. Her voice is my all time favorite. Now if she played the Queen of Thorns, it would make her comments about "There Was A Bear" and "The Rains of Castamere" even funnier.

Re: Is it okay to discuss casting for the HBO series? I'm a city-boy, born and raised, and I never liked country music (which probably had a lot to do with not being exposed to it until well after late teens, when I'd already developed a taste for certain genres). My wife, on the other hand, is a country-girl and is infatuated with men wearing hats with brims that like to wrap around the entire head, rather than rest comfortably in one spot near the front (like all brims should!). I'll have to request some of this Toby fellow's music from her, so I can have a listen for myself. On topic: David Patrick Kelly as Littlefinger and William Fichtner as Podrick Payne.
