British SF Awards shortlists

Here are the shortlists for this year's British SF Awards. They'll be presented in a ceremony, MC'd by yours truly, at the Easter SF Convention in Chester.

Placed £10 on Nova Swing. More of a case of heart ruling head. I'm a huge Harrison fan

Re: British SF Awards shortlists

Interesting list for the Best Novel. The Arthur C Clarke shortlist, on the other hand, is strangely - how can I put this kindly - eclectic...

Re: British SF Awards shortlists

Again, I find myself in the usual situation of not having read any of the entries so I can't really comment.
Hope the event goes well though

Re: British SF Awards shortlists

Worth having a look at some of the BSFA shortlist, to get a snapshot of the genre in 2006.

Thanks for posting the link John. Just wondering - how are the shortlists arrived at?

Re: British SF Awards shortlists

With the BSFA Awards, members of the BSFA can nominate through the year, then the six books with most nominations are shortlisted - like the Hugos. The Arthur C Clarke Award is judged by six people involved in SF, who make up the shortlist, then discuss the eventual winner.
