The Swords that were ice

Hey everyone, I'm new to here.

I just have some thoughts and questions on the two swords forged from Ice. Does anybody think that the weird red and black coloring could be significant? It reminded me a bit of Drogon's scales.

Also, what happened to the sword given to Joffrey after he snuffed it? We know Jaime gave his to Brienne.

Welcome Lady Blackfyre!

Good observations and questions.

I suppose Joff's sword went into the royal vault... I guess it's Tommen's sword now, unless Tywin sent it back to Casterly Rock.

As to the coloring... beats me.

Welcome to the forum!

I could be wrong, but I believe Joff's sword has either passed to Tommen or is simply in storage somewhere in the Red Keep. I haven't done an AFFC re-read yet, so I'm not 100% sure.

Re: The Swords that were ice

Heyo....anyone can answer this....Tywin had the sword reforged, I know that....one was giving to Brienne. One was given to Joff.....but what was that one that Sansa saw being carried by Ilyn Payne early on? Was that melted down as well? Or was it a third sword and I missed where they mentioned it?

Re: The Swords that were ice

Aegon, when Ned was captured his greatsword "Ice" was given to Ilyn Payne by Joffrey.

Later when Twyin came to Kings Landing he took the sword away from Payne and had it melted down to the 2 swords already mentioned.

Welcome to the forums, Lady Blackfyre

I think the red significes Ned blood, you know the blade was black i think from the beginning, and Tywin wanted Lannnister red, instead he got that kinda red, wich i think resembles the blood of Eddard, and perhaps symbolic blood coming from the separation of ice.

I think Cersei been using it to slice her butter on her bread

Anyone have any ideas on what'll happen to Oathkeeper now?

I specifically remember Sansa saying "What have you done to Ice (or my fathers sword)?" Was that one of the smaller models she was referring to? Probably the Joffrey sword.

Re: The Swords that were ice

Brienne's dead. It is known.

If someone used Oathkeeper on Stoneheart, I'd be happy.

I surmised that Ice was large enough to make two swords from, but that one was much larger than the other. Oathbreaker is a full sized one handed blade, but I guess that the other was smaller, thinner, lighter so that it would more easily be used by fourteen year old Joffrey.

Who could end up with this un-named small Valyrian Steel sword? Hmmmm, who uses thin blades? Light blades? And who knows how to stick 'em with the pointy end?

Re: The Swords that were ice

Even though Joff's sword was smaller, thinner, and lighter than a standard longsword, there'd still be a world of difference between it and a bravo's blade. Amd how would Arya get her grubby little hands on it, anyways?

Well, she's already been scurrying around under the Red Keep and finding lost storerooms so, if it has been "archived" (think Raiders of the Lost Arc ) then I'd bet she could find it with Varys' help.

Speaking of the spider, I feel the need to start a thread...

Agreed, but Arya using her father's sword makes for exciting possiblities.

Hey Lady Blackfyre and a belated welcome to the forums.

If I remember correctly, I believe the colouring is simply because they are swords made from re-forged Valyrian Steel. I remember someone saying something to Tywin when he ordered for Ice to be re-forged into two new swords, it boded ill for the owners/users of the re-forged sword (or was it the person who ordered the re-forging?) and that the colour would change because of the re-working.

I'd have to look it up to get more details but I think that's correct...

xx
