| Re: The Swords that were ice Quote:
Remember, the only reason Aegon & his sisters attacked Westeros in the first place was because Valyria was destroyed and Westeros had a nice big ocean between itself and Ghis. Well, that and the fact it seems the ancient Westerosi Andals were pushovers... ![]() I wonder if there's still any "anti-dragon" weapons or tactical manuscripts in Ghis by the way? Since Ghis and Valyria were ancient enemies and Ghis wasn't just wiped out by Targ dragon-riders, they must have had some tactic or defense against them. | |

Re: The Swords that were ice after the destruction the Targaryans stayed a bit on Dragonstone until Aegon decided to invade Westeros (dont know if this is a few years but i think it was a few centuries) During these centuries they sold Valyrian steel, that money would later finance the conquest. Personally i think blackfyre was taken to Daemon descendants, after all only two sons of him died, he had more, and in all the confusion, there may have been a loyal soul around who brought the blade to the blackfyres that or one of the other halfbrothers took it, (bittersteel perhaps) i mean the one who started the golden company and his descendants may have it. DarkSister, well dunno what happened to that one, Rhaegar had it with him when he went to battle against Robert i think

Re: The Swords that were ice Good thinking, WS. They may have had tactics, but in the end Ghis lost three major wars (if I'm not mistaken) to Valyria. Historically, the Carthaginians lost three major wars to the Romans... and the Romans finally had the foundations of Carthage utterly destroyed. Interesting that Ghis still stands after Valyria perished. Perhaps the origins of the Unsullied lie in training men to face dragons in battle. Perhaps the name Slaver's Bay, where Ghis is located, got it's name from Ghis finding a way to live with Valyria instead of trying to rival it. But if anyone had plans (good or bad) to deal with dragons, it'd be Ghis. Maybe some old Grazdan will sell the information to Stannis, Euron, or Jon.

Re: The Swords that were ice Wow. I missed some interesting stuff when I was in the hospital... umm, I meant, on holiday. Yes. Holiday. I don't know exactly when Ice appeared, but it was definately an ancestral blade. I don't think the Andals would have had Valyrian steel before the conquest, because before the Doom Valyrians were extremely powerful and extremely arrogant. That is, supposedly, what caused the Doom in the first place. They would not have believed that the Andals had anything worth trading, and they probably would have been right. So. Post-Field of Fire, pre-Ned.

Re: The Swords that were ice Not to hijack the thread or anything, but has anyone seen the pictures of Longclaw? A guy commisssioned Barret Customs to make a replica of Longclaw based on his description. Not quite what I pictured, but its still pretty sweet. Since I can't post links, google image search "longclaw sword" and it should pop up. Pretty cool imo.

Re: The Swords that were ice i think it has something to do with the return of the dragons with daenerys. along the same lines as the wildfire suddenly becoming much more potent and easy to make. i would go so far as to speculate that the so-called "lord of light" and all things associated with him (ie-how thoros keeps bringing back beric and all the powers that melisandre wields). i think that it goes back to dragons reentering the world.

Re: The Swords that were ice The Valyrian swords will certainly play a big role when it comes to a fight between humans and Others. If I remember correctly 'Dragon glass' and Valyrian steel were the only things that could kill them. concerning the anti-dragon-weapons: Valyrian steel forged in dragon fire and dragon glass at least touched if not molten by it can kill the Others. Dragons are enemys of the Others => The others have/can forge/make weapons to fight dragons.

Re: The Swords that were ice So then since there are dragons again could Valyrian steel be made again? That is of course assuming someone knows how. Which came first the last dragon dying or the doom of Valyria?

Re: The Swords that were ice I thought the Targaryens fled to Westeroes when the doom happened and then later still had the dragons to conquer Westeroes. Besides that there ara all the skulls in Kingslanding and why should they have brought them with them. Besides I'm pretty sure that the last two dragons, which were very small and didn't have any power, were bred in Westeroes. And there was this one queen who came to the wall with her dragon. => so the doom happened first but with it the dragons were getting weaker and weaker.

Re: The Swords that were ice I'm wondering if maybe the two swords will end up in the hands of the two "dragon heads" that are not Dany, as I assume she will have Lightbringer, in whatever form it presents itself. A sword that is red and black, what better sword for a dragon?
