Re: Is it just me? Heh, most people, including my brother, have that reaction to my love of opera. I'm getting taken to see Traviata for my birthday in feb though, I'm incredibly excited as it'll be the first opera I've seen outside of the television. I love the stories and the music and the drama... and the music really is wonderful. certain arias, I never get tired of listening to them- like Dido's Lament. I love that song! Have you ever heard any of Madame Butterfly? It's quite well known and it's lovely.

Re: Is it just me? It's good to be into the classical I may not care to much for oppera but I like Bethoven and Boch and such, I use to take my gheto blaster in the garage, a three bay garage on the homestead, and crank the gheto to as loud as it would go and listen to it reverberated off the walls and oppen ceiling, nice acoustics effect. I would stand before the gheto and pretend I was the conductor with a baton. Never been to a classical type theater, imagine it must be nice. Maybe I can talk Master into taking me to the theater, what do you think Esioul

Re: Is it just me? Heh maybe! Opera is fun! If you ever feel like listening to any to see what you think, I would reccommend Puccini, especially Madame Butterly, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Bizet's Carmen, and most of Verdi, especially Traviata and Aida- this are all well known and have nice tunes

Re: Is it just me? I find classical opera and ballet a bit hard for me to enjoy. Both are true arts and have their place but it's not with me. Both opera and ballet exaggerate whatever they try to say. The death of the swan in the ballet "Swan Lake" takes way too long. I do understand that if everything in opera was done in real time it would not exist. The same is true for opera. Three hours to have a 30-minute story told. On the positive side I have great admiration for the strength, poise, gracefulness and dedication that ballet dancers have for their form of expression. They are in superb physical condition and do with ease the moves I am afraid to try. I cannot say enough about opeartic voices. Tenor, baritone, whatever, they are, technically speaking, a marvel. The art I love. The artform is just not my first choice. Thank you.

For those who like oldies, and I mean genuine pop music oldies, go to www.warx.com for the best oldies I have ever heard. This weekend they are featuring oldies instrumentals. Also have a look at the Guest Book. Enjoy! Paula

As for opera and ballet, it not my thing at all I'm afraid, but I do love a good piece of classical score. Its a strange thing though, classical music as an artform is as good as dead with the enormous exception of film and computer game soundtracks. Some of the best classical music of the 20th century was film score. | |
