| Rather Urgent Mythical Creature requests I am new at this, but I LOVE this site! If any smarties out there could please help: Can anyone think of any Phoenix-like mythical creatures? Strong, elegant (feminine if possible)...anything that invokes reinstating, awakening, reinvigorating... please help! |

| Re: Rather Urgent Mythical Creature requests 'Rushes upstairs to get my gun, no wait I meant book.' Hmmmm I am not too sure if there is a comparison. Angels, they are elegant, can be feminine and have awakening etc. Er there is the Roc, a gigantic bird, strong and powerful and no doubt elegant like an eagle. Suppose you could have Dryads, they being nature spirts can re-awaken from winter and reinvigorate but not at all Phoenix-like. The Griffin and Hippogriff have wings like an eagle, like a Phoenix but they do not posses you other factors. They are strong. Something very feminine and strong - Sphinxes. Elves are seen as elegant and feminine etc but not at all Pheonixy. I dunno, I hope that helps somewhat. I'll keep racking my brains. Maybe someone else may know. Pegassus and Unicorns have the elegant, strong female factor. I think the Unicorn can heal, maybe look into the Ki-Lin, that is considered similar to a Unicorn. A Pegassus has wings, lol. |

| Re: Rather Urgent Mythical Creature requests If you created your own pantheon you could create a goddess who's fabled re-awakening is harkened to by the use of a phoenix as her personal 'icon'. Or something not quite similar but maybe in the same vein are the basilisks who aren't truly re-awakened but created wholly out of the dregs of life (I believe the egg of a chicken is fertilized by something else - lizard maybe - and then incubated in a heap of bacteria infested garbage or some such)...thus taking old, bad things and creating something new out of it. Ok, probably not what you are looking for but hey, ya never know!! |

| resident pedantissimo | Re: Rather Urgent Mythical Creature requests Huge numbers of nature spirits; Dryads and the like, go through regular cyclic rejuvenations, presumably symbolic of the turning of the seasons, the year reborn, etc. The John Barleycorn must die symbolism. Check through your nymphs; even those associated with springs are frequently regenerating. On a shorter loop, there are a couple of moon goddesses who wax and wane on a twenty-eight day cycle. In greek mythology, Persephone spend half of her time in Hades; perhaps she's too human to merit the title creature. And she might not be strong, but, with a husband like that, she's definitely powerful. You're thinking the nymphs are too humanoid, too? Check across a few cultures; the "innocent naked virgin" act is a front, protective colouration. They drown people, eat them, make them miss important appointments; and frequently change guise after having obtained what they wanted. |
