Joseph Barbera 1911-2006

Joseph Barbera, the other half of Hanna Barbera cartoons, passed away on December 18th, 2006. He had co-created such children animation classics such as Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Jonny Quest, Huckleberry Hound, The Yogi Bear Show, SMURFS (produced), Ruff & Reddy, Top Cat, Quick Draw McGraw, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, 2 Stupid Dogs, The Pirates of Dark Water, and many other examples.

He and his studio have molded the animated pop culture so thoroughly that it is hard to even list every cartoon that they produced. I found a "List of Works" online page, however, that provides a complete representation of his work and the works with he has been associated.

I don't know about anyone else on this site, but I grew up watching his cartoons, and his inspired contribution to animation will be missed.

Anyone have a personal favorite?

I loved the Flintstones and Scooby Doo. I always made sure that I could watch it on television when I was younger - thankfully I had very tolerant parents! What a legacy to leave behind, though.

The 80's cartoon thread had just reminded me of alot of these, including Space Ghost and Land of the Dinosaurs. Anyone remember Atom Ant and Secret Squirrel (Inspector gadget + fur).

A Jetsons Movie came out right when my younger sister reached that wonderful age where they can watch a movie over and over and over again. I know there was a rock star who sung some silly song during the movie and despite all efforts to the contary, I spent way too much time singing it at work .
