Re: Will somebody suggest a good fantasy series?

As this is posted in YA, I'm assuming that's approximately the age we're shooting for: Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain comes to mind:

The Book of Three (1964)
The Black Cauldron (1965)
The Castle of Llyr (1966)
Taran Wanderer (1967)
The High King (1968)
The Foundling and Other Tales from Prydain (1970)

There's also Joy Chant's House of Kendreth set:

Red Moon and Black Mountain (1970)
The Gray Mane of Morning (1977)
When Voiha Wakes (1983)

though opinions on those differ. And, as you didn't say what (to you) comprises a series, I'll throw in Alan Garner's Alderley books:

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen (1960)
The Moon of Gomrath (1963)

Those are the ones that come to mind right off, though I'm sure others will be able to give considerably more recommendations, as this area is definitely not my strong suit.....

However, this may help:

Re: Will somebody suggest a good fantasy series?

Jane Yolen's Pit Dragon trilogy is probably one of the best ya fantasy books I remember reading. I probably said that somewhere else. She also has a lot of other sets that are very good...but that is my favorite from my childhood.

"The Winter of the World" by Michael Scott Rohan.

Quite old now, original in many respects. By far the best thing he has ever done. Set during the ice age, but in a society at medieval levels of technology.

A very underappreciated fantasy, but very good.

by:lynne ewing
heres what its about:
Vanessa,Catty,Serena, and Jimena seem like ordinary girls living in Los Angeles. But they each have a secret. Vanessa can become invisible. Catty travels back in time. Serena reads minds, and Jemena has premonitions. What separates them others bands them together as 'the daughters of the moon.

Re: Will somebody suggest a good fantasy series?

Two spring to mind;
Over sea, Under Stone
The Dark is Rising
The Grey King
Greenwitch
Silver on The Tree
i.e. The Dark is Rising sequence by Susan Cooper

And The Belgriad by David Eddings
Pawn of Prophecy
Queen of Sorcery
Magician's Gambit
Castle of Wizardry
Enchanter's End Game

These series are at opposite ends of the spectrum, the former being short and easily digestible, the latter longer but quite accessible.

Lots of luck.

Re: Will somebody suggest a good fantasy series?

I've read the first book of the Belgariad, and it was good, i would recommend the Green Rider books by Kristen Britain
- Green Rider
- First Rider's Call
- the third one's out in November (can't wait!)

Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, by Michelle Paver are good as well
- Wolf Brother
-Spirit Walker
-Soul Eater

hmmm....and the Icemark Chronicles by Stuart Hill
- The Cry of the Icemark
- Blade of Fire

Alan Garner's books are quite short -- within that range, I'd say. And, as this is in the YA section, I'd suggest Lloyd Alexander's and Madeleine L'Engle's books....
