Although it applies much more to film scripts, there is a mantra that "if it doesn't advance the plot (in this episode or a future one) don't bother mentioning it". Which is why so many people are using the locket as an example of proving Regulus Black.

The name thing points to it being a Black, and Dumbledore himself says that 'Voldemort had his spies just like i had mine' or something like that. Regulus could be the spy...theoretically. he might have accidentally found out about the horcrux and gone (with Kreacher) to get it, without telling Dumbles. it would explain why Kreacher is completely nuts...he was made to drink the potion. it would also explain the 'heavy locket that none of them could open' in Grimmauld Place - which JKR would not have mentioned unless it was significant

That would explain why Kreacher is mad because I don't believe anyone could drink the potion without being forced to.

I'm glad you think it was funny because Kretcher definitely has a part to play in Dallows. He knows who R.A.B. is I think.
