Re: where would you live? have to go with Tol Honeth... not so big or busy as Mal Zeth, but more attractive and just as corrupt. Or Perhaps Melcena... a flawlessly manicured island. And of course be a merchant prince - one for whom spying, politics and money are all part and parcel. Vale of Aldur just sounds too boring... sure its breathtakingly pastorally beautiful, but nothing happens there. A bi-millenial visit by Aldur's spirit... a few deer come and go...but nothing actually happens there apart from 'studying'

Re: where would you live? If not the Vale of Aldur, then I think I'd like to live in Riva. (shocking, I know) Still, from the descriptions that Eddings gives, the whole city of Riva is bleak and purposeful on the outside, but full of music and colour on the inside. I think I'd like a place like that.

Re: where would you live? hmm, that's a tricky one! I think I'd like to take over from Vordai in the fens, and commune with the fenlings in the damp. Alternatively, I'd love Kell *zaps a Grolim or two* becuase I'd be interested to see if I could hear the hum of the seers communicating.

Re: where would you live? Why are all these in Belgariad / Mallorean? What wrong with, say, Tamul? Tamul is nice. If you're a businessman. Of course, it's basically Tolnedra, but that isn't the point.

Re: where would you live? sorry, I tend to think of belgariad/mallorean because I've read them more than all his other stuff. also, his medieval societies are transferrable; as you've pointed out, Tamul is Drasnia, and he always has a viking society, and a mongol-y one, and a high fantasy medieval one with the archaic speech patterns (showin' off the education?). I'd like to try Spokane, Washington, where he sets 'The Losers', because he makes it sound like hell on earth! If I'm going for a non-Garion location, but still fantasy, I'd like to try.... Thalesia. All those big brawny men in armor with long hair... GRRR! *eyebrow waggling*

Re: where would you live? Hmm, Elenium/Tamuli series? I'd have to say Chyrellos - the free city. A mixing pot of all the Elene cultures. Mind you, Eddings doesn't really go into too much detail about Deira, does he, or have I missed something out? It really has been a while since I read it last...
