Re: Dragon riders Well, if they want to make family friendly Pern stories, they should do the Harper Hall trilogy instead. That's written for young adults. The only problem there is that there aren't too many dragons. However, that'd mean less CGI and cheaper movies. I'm just sick of the puritan American attitude where any sex immediately means a movie gets a higher rating, whereas you can have almost any amount of violence and still keep it a PG-13.

Re: Dragon riders *blinks* Well... In my opinion IF they made Pern into a movie they should do the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy with Lessa's Journey and everything. they don't have to show dragon mating if they do it right. I mean Lessa doesn't even become a weyr leader untill the middle of all that. If they followed lessa's story they could really make a decent movie or two.*blinks* I do like the idea of a series better we'fd see more of the limitlessness of Pern as a whole. Plus there'd be a greater amoutn of Anne Mc Caffery's details included. To compare Eragon to PErn...I think i'd rather laugh for like an hour.*shakes head* it may have a movie about it but like pyan said of reviews They murdered the story on Screen. while it was nice visually it wasn't the story of Eragon at all.*shrugs* I read the book only to compare it to the movie and *shudders* If I ever saw Pern on screen in such a way I'd blanch. IF they make A movie of any of the Pern Stories I'd want them done right and not .... heh well if you've actually read and seen Eragon you know what I mean. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if George Lucas did the film or something but*shrugs* again my Opinion. On another point>> I'd rather not have it all in CG if possible. I mean sure alot of it would have to be but things are so over hyped in CGI these days it's a wonder they think things look very realistic at all. ![]()

Re: Dragon riders It wouldn't be Pern if they didn't show the dragon mating and the way it affects their riders. It's central to the bond between dragon and rider, and without it I'd rather they never made any Pern movies at all, quite frankly. Or do straight to DVD, where ratings are less of an issue.

I mean, do you think that, say, the Ride of the Rohirrim in Return of the King is the same on your tv as it was in the cinema? And with all the wide open spaces of the skies of Pern and the faded grandeur of the Weyrs to play with, it would be a shame to restrict them to the small screen. | |

Re: Dragon riders It of course depends on the size of your screen. Over the new year holiday I watched LotR over three days on my boyfriend's 96 inch wall projector. The smallest movie theater in town has a screen with a diagonal only about twice that long (it seats about 30 people), i. e. only four times the area. I do realize that not everyone has the opportunity to watch it under such conditions.

Re: Dragon riders The best bit was that I could sit there with a beer in my hand, and hit pause for all the bathroom breaks I or my bf needed. ![]() But seriously, direct2DVD isn't just for movies that aren't thought popular enough to warrant theater release. For some it could be a deliberate choice.

Re: Dragon riders whilst i see Eragon for the plagiaristic kiddie book that it is... i couldn't help but like it... The movie isn't all that bad. In fact it is what prompted me to buy the book. The book was better. Now a DRoP film would have to be made better than Eragon - for the simple reason that is features adult characters and therefore doesn't need to be simplified nearly as much. I would rather see Dragonflight first... prequels can be good later. However, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't dragonflight the highest selling of the DRoP books? there is enough action that involves and that which does not involve, the dragons. It shows all the complexity of Weyr life, both riders and dragons and Weyr/Hold interaction/conflict as is needed in the film that sets up a franchise.

Re: Dragon riders i have to agree that the furry dragon was wierd, and at the beginning it looks like Roron is wearing jeans... but i couldn't help but like it. Would have been better is Jeremy Irons was NOT in it... and John Malkovich too... talk about hammy actors... Jeremy Irons was the main reason why i loathed the Dungeons and Dragons movie (it was weak anyway, but he overplayed his part as though he was a cartoon character, or performing on-stage where over-acting is expected).

Re: Dragon riders I just have to add here, I hope that the dragons of this movie are based off Michael Whelan's covers. This is a great example: Michael Whelan Gallery Detail His vision of the dragons of Pern were the most natural and beautiful I can hope to see. Please, movie producers, don't add big shiny scales, fins, hair, ears, big-beefy-arms, troll-fangs or silly human-like faces to these dragons. I think my head would implode.

Re: Dragon riders Hopefully they'd get him to do the design for the film. I'd love to see what I consider the dragons of Pern to look like on screen (more or less the same as the book covers), as opposed to the current trend set by the Eragon film.
