Where To Start

Hello all,

I have not read any of your books Teresa but am looking forward to starting on them, I was wondering if you or anyone else could suggest the best place to start. I am more interrested in the novels than the short stories. Is there a best place to start?

Hi, Swady, and welcome to the forums.

The Hidden Stars is the one most readily available, since the others are all OP, but which one you might be most likely to enjoy depends on what other books you particularly like. Not all my books are connected (some are), so there are a few different places you could start, without finding yourself coming in in the middle of an ongoing story.

Maybe this has been answered elsewhere, but are there any plans to rerelease some of your early works? My friend really wants me to read them, but I don't find them very easy to track down.

I will start with The Hidden Stars, but I was just wondering for afterwards.

Hi, Kailana, and welcome.

There are no plans, at present, to reissue my early books, but I have plans to make plans (if that makes any sense) as soon as I can get some other areas of my life in order.

In the meantime, it's usually not difficult to find used copies online. I can't vouch for the condition of any of them, of course, because old paperbacks don't hold up very well. (Just don't let anyone try and sell you any copies for more than they cost new!)

I have been searching for them online used, and I have managed to find all of them but one. I was just checking to see if they were going to be reissued anytime soon before beginning the process. Thank you for answering my question!

I believe it is The Moon and the Thorn. I live in Canada, and haven't been able to find it on any of the Canadian book selling sites yet. I actually found one of your books at the second hand bookstore, Child of Saturn, so that is the trilogy that I will be paying attention to first.

I've had fair luck with Teresa's books on eBay, but when looking for a particular title I often am obsessive an check at least once or twice per day. The most dependable source I've found for hard-to-find books is the Advanced Book Exchange (ABE). It's an online database of hundreds (possibly thousands) of small booksellers, with a very precise seach funtion. Currently there are 30 of Teresa's works for sale, although The Moon and the Thorn are not among them (to be honest, I'd much rather have an autographed copy from Teresa anyway!). I can vouch for them as a reputable business, as I've purchased many books from them in the past. Find them at AbeBooks: New & Used Books, Textbooks, Rare & Out of Print Books

Yes, I've bought books from ABE before. Sometimes they even have new books at very reasonable prices. I think most of us just go to amazon.com reflexively, which is not necessarily the best way to get books all of the time.

As for Blaylock -- after some of the books I've read the last two months, I could use a little J. P. Blaylock as a refresher! I just wish that the titles I haven't read were more affordable.

Oh, and on the subject of autographed books: If anyone who has something of mine wants an autographed and personalized bookplate (for those who don't know what a bookplate is -- and I was surprised to discover how many people don't -- it's the thing you stick inside the cover that usually says something along the lines of, "This book belongs to ..." or "From the library
of ..." ), you have only to PM me a name and address.

I have used ABE books before. I just find that with shipping, a lot of times old books are the same price as the book when it was new. The only time I have ever felt like I got a good deal was when I ordered hardcovers last year. As to ebay, I personally find that the Canadian one sucks for books, I generally find more on the American version, but then there is that fun shipping again... I am sadly one of the stereotypical "poor" university students. No matter how much I want a book, I can't always get it.

I have been considering, but you know, in order to switch you sort of have to give up books of your own. I have a hard time doing that, especially with my fantasy... I need to thin my books out, though. Canada needs to get more bookish-type sites, that's the only solution there is. People here read... we are educated...
