Indeed it would, Cat.... I have a couple of books that reproduce quite a bit of his art, but all in b&w, so you lose his use of color. Still, better than not having it at all.

As for the poetry, the latest on this from Hippocamus is included in the following:

The Complete Poetry and Translations of Clark Ashton Smith - Hippocampus Press

Things have been a bit delayed, though, so they may not be released at that point...

I'm not sure to what you're referring here; could you be a bit more specific, such as giving a title or two for me to look up there (or providing a link, if you can)....

"The dome in the ice"-a VERY promising description.

Re: For the CAS fans out there

No, things like this were not finished stories. If you'll look at this link, it divides these up into the various categories, from finished stories to synopses:

Strange Shadows: The Uncollected Fiction and Essays of Clark Ashton Smith in the Bibliography of Clark Ashton Smith

Such a shame, though, the synospis was so damn briliant!

Hmm,it seems "The Lord of Lunacy (Fragment)" is not avalible.Oh well, have chosen to read Ubbo-Sathla now I believe.

Re: For the CAS fans out there

Well, the cover art is up on the first two volumes of CAS's verse:

Hippocampus Press

They are also publishing an expanded edition of Donald Sidney-Fryer's work on Smith, The Hashish-Eater, which is an annotated version of the poem, and includes both versions -- that from Ebony and Crystal (which garnered such favorable comment from HPL), and the revised version from Selected Poems (done in the 1940s)....

Re: For the CAS fans out there

Both the Smith poetry volumes are out, as well as the annotated edition of "The Hashish-Eater"; and for those who are Smith fans and also interested in the Cthulhu Mythos, Chaosium has just released the following:

The Klarkash-Ton Cycle Chaosium Inc.

Re: For the CAS fans out there

Depending on what stories you mean. If you are including his science fiction, then no. If you're referring to his "orientales" and more "mainstream" writings (few in number), then yes. From my understanding, those were to be published separately, in an edition limited to subscribers to this set. However, several of them have also been published elsewhere, and there may be some plans to reprint them, depending on how the new editions (here and otherwise) of Smith do....

Re: For the CAS fans out there

I'm aiming to finally read Red Worlds Of Polaris this weekend. It collects all of the Captain Volmar stories.

I know JD wasn't overly enthusiatic about these stories but I shall reserve judgement.

Re: For the CAS fans out there

No; but then again, Smith himself made it quite plain he was writing them below standard, because he wasn't allowed the sort of leeway his imagination required to be at its best; he had to stick to accepted formulas, and decided to have a bit of fun taking those apart while he was at it... but it doesn't make for good stories, however entertaining they may be in other ways. Some of his other sf, however, can be of interest -- though largely because he was one who blended sf and fantasy rather heavily (e.g., "The Monster of the Prophecy")....

Still, I'll be curious to see what you think of them, Mr. G. And I would say that, for someone like yourself, who is so very into such writers, they are something you should give a whirl....
