| Flaming Poltergeist | Re: Stop! Ashes Time! Didn't we only just have The Ashes? Or have I lost several years of my life? England won it last time, right? God, it only seems like it was a couple of months ago (you're going to tell me it was about three years ago, aren't you ) |

| Keep Moving Forward! | Re: Stop! Ashes Time! Cracking start there, gents. Forty-seven off the first ten. It's going to be a long, hot summer for your guys.... I was wondering why the English fans make up so many songs, but then it struck me - you have to get your entertainment somehow, god knows your players won't deliver it. Australians don't really need songs referencing events a couple hundred years in the past. All we need do is point at an English player. Embarrassing enough for an English fan I should imagine.... |

| Keep Moving Forward! | Re: Stop! Ashes Time! Not bitching, gentle banter... Nearing stumps on day one and the Aussies are three down for three-fiftyish, with Ponting knocking up another century. It's quite dissappointing, really, I'd've hoped that the English would put up more of a fight. It's a shame they went with Giles because I was quite interested in seeing Pasenar in action. Oh well, with any luck Australia will crumble tomorrow morning and we'll actually have a game on our hands. Otherwise, you might want to pray for rain. And the Barmy Army are still singing, god bless 'em.... |

| Re: Stop! Ashes Time! I must say I don't really care about cricket one way or the other but I enjoyed seeing your incredibly arrogant players humbled last year and the huge soul-searching inquest that it promoted back in Australia. When you've lost as much as the British, you'll not whine so much |

| Re: Stop! Ashes Time! Aye, I do hope Panesar gets a bowl at some point in the series - he really is great to watch - a real fan's favorite ![]() But to be honest, no one actually expects England to retain, do they? Unless we get a bit of that snow we've been promised |

| Re: Stop! Ashes Time! Whether they win or lose - if they are anything like they were when they won the Ashes, they are extremely watchable - just a shame I can't keep the old peepers open all night! Yawn - cor that's got me started already and it's only 20 past 5. |

In fact, I have to admit that I wanted the English to win last time round, and wouldn't grudge them another win this summer, however unlikely that's looking. I haven't been a fan of the Australian cricket team for some time - due to, yes, the arrogance that crept in during Steve Waugh's captaincy, and the lack of sportmanship that went hand in hand with that - and while I'm slowly coming around to Ricky's current crop, I doubt I'll ever be able to muster much enthusiasm for them while Shane Warne continues to drag our country's good name through the mud. I'm more a fan of cricket itself, and while the Australian batting at moment is something to behold, I much prefer a test match that comes down to the last session of the last day. Oh well, maybe next summer. | |
