Hello from award-winning publisher Hi all, and thanks to Brian for reminding me that I should be active on here. I'm Andrew Hook and as well as being a writer of mostly short fiction, I am also the mastermind behind Elastic Press, a UK independent press that specialises in short stories. In 2005 we won the British Fantasy Society best small press award, and from the same society our books won best anthology in 2005 ("The Alsiso Project") and 2006 ("The Elastic Book of Numbers"). Our website will tell you more, but basically we publish in a variety of genres, often within the same collection, although there is a tendency towards sf/horror/slipstream. Anyway, I guess I better take a look around...

Re: Hello from award-winning publisher Welcome to Chronicles, Andrew! A publisher, eh? Hmm...I'm doing an English degree at the moment and although I haven't given a lot of thought to a possible career path yet, publishing is something I could perhaps be interested in...anyway, I won't bother you about it, I'll just have to remember to take a look at your website, perhaps! Once again, welcome to Chron! ![]()

Re: Hello from award-winning publisher Welcome!!! Congrats on your awards, thats impressive. Please beware the basement monsters and the attic goblins. They are hungry, at times. ![]() Looking forward to tips and advice from you. Is it only short stories or do you also publish poetry?

Re: Hello from award-winning publisher Welcome, Andrew! Just two things to remember: don't go near the Basement without a very large stick, or preferably a .44 Magnum, and don't believe anything the orange newt above tells you.

Re: Hello from award-winning publisher Okay... so we've had Larry and Moe in to greet you ... where's the third stooge? *ahem* Welcome to the Chronicles... Yes, the award is definitely impressive, and congratulations! Browse, find places you'd like to put in your 2c worth, and jump in (well, except for the piranha pool ... might want to think about that one....). Glad to have you around, and I look forward to your input!

Re: Hello from award-winning publisher Thanks for all the messages! There seems to be a hell of a lot of info on this site, and it appears to be a fascinating community so I'll try and make an attempt to check in here and read as many posts as possible on a regular basis. dustinzgirl: we don't publish poetry at all, we only do short stories. Very few publishers even go so far as to touch short story collections so we're already marginalised as it is without doing poetry as well ![]() pyanfaruk: I'll take the .44 magnum over the large stick I think... HoopyFrood: we're a very small company at the moment (mostly me and a couple of other people I employ freelance), but by the time you finish your degree we might have expanded, who knows...!? Cheers, Andrew

I was really wondering if maybe you could help me understand what publishing entails and the like. But as I said, I could probably browse your website for that ![]() |
