Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy With as many episodes as there were and as much time lag to get to this side of the Atlantic, I still remember that title and seem to remember the episode. I'll have to look it up.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Well - not much to choose from between those three - the '80s were a bit of a dead time for the Doctor weren't they? However, I have to agree with you LOT - Colin Baker was the better of the three.

| Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Quote:
My problem with Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred was that they had both already done a lot of young children's programmes before Dr Who. In McCoy's case, he brought too much of the persona he had used in his previous jobs. Which made his interpretation of the doctor way too childish, like he was dumbing the doctor down and aiming more for the pre teen market, ignoring the older fans. | |

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy and that was probably why i liked sylvester mc coy the best! cos i was a kid, and i knew him as a presentor. he's still my fav, tho i klike david tennant well enough, cos i like him as an actor, the hwole billie piper thing irratated me, and i dont' like the way the episodes are short and singular, rather than a longer series.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Yeah faery queen - I agree with you there. A bit like Saturday morning pictures when I was a kid - they always left the hero looking as though death had got him and we couldn't wait to get there the next Saturday to see what had happened - whether he still lived or not (we always knew he would). A continuous storyline would be much better.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy They did do an ongoing, season-long storyline with the Bad Wolf thing. But your respective points are well taken. I am assuming they feel longer seperate stories would be too much for the younger fans whose attention spans have been shot to hell with today's TV.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy It's like asking if you'd rather be hanged, gassed or shot, but it'd have to be Colin Baker - at least he tried to be the Doctor: I felt the other two were just coasting.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy I've always felt Doctor Who was like pizza: when it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good. My theory was that with the small amount of Science Fiction on television over the years and the pathetic quality of most of it, if you find something that's decent, appreceate it, even if some parts are better than others. We've been blessed with Doctor Who in his many incarnations and Star Trek in the various series and not much lese of any consistency and stamina. I did like Colin Baker out of that bunch.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Well i suppose for many-including me-none of the Eighties Doctors really could hold a candle to Tom Baker. He was a standard and he was in it so long it was probably a heck of a riisk going on without him.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Speaking personally I felt that the quality of stories diminished as the 80's went on, only regaining some of the old magic in the final season - I still remember feeling that Battlefield felt like 'old Doctor Who' That being said I preferred Davison, simply because his stories were better. However I always felt Baker had the potential of being a superb Doctor and was generally let down by the quality of his tales!

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Colin had the best potential and Season 22 wasnt actually half-bad. I felt the series took a nosedive when it came back after the 18 month hiatus with Seasons 23's Trial of a Time Lord mishmash. Then it went from bad to worse after the BBC forced the producer to change lead actors at short notice. Just my opinion of course.

Re: Best Eighties Doctor: Davison Vs Baker Vs McCoy Davison gets my vote with McCoy second...Davison is my Doctor...I loved his stories...I refused to watch Baker...But McCoy's stories were brilliant...I love reading the novels with his Doctor in...They're always more interesting than the others (save the Hartnell ones..They're good...) although Palace of the Red Sun was brilliant with Baker in...Ummm...Lost the point now...Er... Davison...Yes... Ummm...
