Re: A place in my heart!

I started reading Pern a month or so ago, I LOVE THEM. I'm thinking of trying more of her books anyone have a favorite they would suggest for me? Yes Anne may go on and on with the technological things but i try and ignore that and take the books for what they are, delightfully told stories with complex and loveable characters. Half the day I wish I was there on Pern myself mostly because it's so low in technology, but it's not as if Anne turned Pern sooooo technological it's beyond belief by introducing AIVAS ...even if it's a little off i'll always love her books. They were handed down to my by a much loved family member, we often get into discussions about Pern lol... well i've rambled enough.

Re: A place in my heart!

Tell me which ones you've read...

I'd suggest you read the books in publication order, starting with Dragonflight, rather than chronological order, starting with Dragonsdawn. That way you'll discover the world the way Anne did, and can discount later discrepancies more easily. I'll warn you, she'll contradict herself often.

I'm sorry for not clarifying. I ahve read all of the Pern books. I wanted to look into some of her other series. So tell me which ones you all like the best.

Re: A place in my heart!

My favorite is the Talent series. It's bugged by some of the same problems as Pern, although not quite as severely. They describe a world where some people have PSI powers, called Talents.

Pegasus series:
To Fly Pegasus
Pegasus in Flight
Pegasus in Space

Tower Series (same world as Pegasus, but about three centuries later)
The Rowan
Damia
Damia's Children
Lyon's Pride
The Tower and the Hive

Re: A place in my heart!

Thanks. Which should I read first? Pern was published out of chronological order is it the same with these? Should I read the Tower series or Pegasus? I appreciate the help

Re: A place in my heart!

To Fly Pegasus is a bit disjointed, since it's a collection of novels. There's also a bit more politcs in them than I like, since they deal with the establishment of Talent rights. However, TFP and PIF are well worth reading, given that PIS is certainly the best book Anne's written after about 1990, IMO.

The Tower series is probably a bit easier to get into, so you might like to start with that. Of course, if you find the Pegasus series first, you'll get into Tower having read Pegasus as well.

Re: A place in my heart!

BTW, it's "To Ride Pegasus" not "fly".
Always good to get the title right when hunting down a book!
I'd suggest the Crystal Singer series, also.
Only three in that group;

The Crystal Singer.
Killashandra.
Crystal Line.

Happy reading.

Re: A place in my heart!

Oops, sorry about that. I have the books on my shelf, but I always get that one wrong! *blush*

Crystal Singer and Killashandra are really good, but I'm afraid I didn't think much of Crystal Line. It was about as unclear about the timeline and otherwise disjointed as the brain-scrambled heroine! But they're definitely worth reading.

Re: A place in my heart!

I've read all of her books so far, and will probably re-read them - when I find the time!.
I must agree with Manephelien, I didn't enjoy Chrystal Line nearly as much as Killashandra.
I seem to remember not thinking much of the 'Tower and the Hive' for some reason. I'ts too long ago now, to remember exactly why

Re: A place in my heart!

It's a bit confusing because there are so many characters. I like Damia's Children best out of the Tower books.
