Question Page to Screen - Best & Worst?

Short stories, novellas, laundry lists included - whatever you like.

3 of the Best:
The Body filmed as Stand By Me;
The Shining Mini-Series;
Quitters Inc. section of Cats Eye

Bad
The Running Man (similar in name only)
The last 45 minutes of It (almost funny compared to all that came before)
Maximum Overdrive (Cool Green Goblin Truck but other than that - rubbish)

Any more for any more?

Oh Yeah - Shawshank is top drawer. Good shout. Add in The Green Mile in that case.

Re: Page to Screen - Best & Worst?

oh, I can tell you the WORST--it was that sorry TV miniseries they made of Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea trilogy. Soooo bad.

I believe the LOTR films were superb adaptations of an extremely difficult and complex written story.

Re: Page to Screen - Best & Worst?

Oh oh! Doing the little "Best SK book" thread, I've remembered Page to screen one...
Dolores Claiborne...the film is really good. A bit of poetic licence on the Director's behalf, but hell, what book to film doesn't. I love how the film is done, it's a very quiet, sombre film (as if the story of course) and I LOVE THE ACCENT! I have to go to Maine, just to pick up it! One criticism...no Dust Monsters! That's like how Kubrick missed out the Hedge Animals in The Shining...best bit!!!

Re: Page to Screen - Best & Worst?

Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Stand By Me
The Shining

I'm stopping with 4, there are more that are good, Carrie, Christine, Cujo, etc, but I stand by the 4 above as being the best.

Pet Cemetary
Sleep Walkers
The Running Man
Maximum Overdrive

The Stand was brilliant

The Langoliers should have been good but the meatballs with teeth were a disappointment and turned it into a joke
