Is democracy worth it?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/2977178.stm

Aung San Suu Kyi and her supporters are in a position of suffering to bring democracy to Burma. Is it worth it though? Look at our world democracies and I see corruption and nepotism as the only real winners. The actual ruling party becomes irrelevant as the civil servants define how governments can move. We are not freed by rampant materialism and cosumerism fed by greed and want and sex sold to children. We are enslaved into a wasteful gluttonous existence that deprives the poor of the world of their own resources and condemns them to eternal poverty as the free market insists they remain the slaves of the rich. aung San Suu Kyi is fighting for idealism but she is protesting for Utopia. It does not exist. If she ever won her way then she would face nothing but eventual disillusionment. Nice to see the oil companies happy to work with her oppressors though. The rich west makes token concerns for her well being while funding her tomentors. Typical democratic hypocrisy.
