Re: Wheel Of Time I got half way through book 4 before giving up. Starts well, interesting ideas and a unique way of describing sword fights I really enjoyed. By book 4 he was taking a huge amount of pages to tell what seems like very little story, new plot threads and characters sprouting in all directions. Some characters had just a few pages of coverage in 2 chapters in an entire book. Glad I stopped, book 11 last time I looked. In the end I feel it is just a synical attempt to extract cash from those who have to have completion of the story. It just goes on and on and on and on and ...

Re: Wheel Of Time I read this series up until and including book 5. The story seemed to deteriorate almost from the beginning, but it felt OK until somewhere around book 3, when Faile was introduced. Book 4 was pretty bad, but I read book 5 just to see if there was any chance it'd get better. It didn't.

Re: Wheel Of Time Books 1-5 have some of the best fantasy writing I've ever read. In fact, Eye of the World, is and will always be in my top 5 books. After that, it's like another author took over the series. The pace and feel changes completely.

Re: Wheel Of Time Don't read the prequal first. It will completly ruin the first book. I recomend starting at the first book, The Eye of the World (Sometimes sold in a two part under From the Two Rivers, and To the Blight) Some argue his series goes downhill and whatnot, but compared to the bulk of the fantasy genre, he is uncomparable in quality and enjoyment. And for whoever asked, there is one more, A Memory of Light, left to be published.

Re: Wheel Of Time Thanks for the advice about not reading the prequel first. From what I've heard, opinion seems to be mixed on whether I should finish reading the series or not. However, it seems that I've been drawn into the world of WoT, and I'd like to see how it finishes, at least. If 'A memory of Light' is the last book, then I suppose I won't have long to wait.

Re: Wheel Of Time I wouldn't read the prologue first either, but it is a good idea to read the rest of the series. Of course, I might be biased... The series really picks up again with book 11. That's when the action starts after dropping off somewhat with Crossroads of Twilight. It's a good book, and sets the rest of the series to play out. Let's see how it ends!

Re: Wheel Of Time I started reading the Wheel of Time in 1993 thinking it was a 5 book saga - yeah stop laughing you! ![]() When I first read "The Wheel of Time goes on and on" I didnt realise how prophetic it was. I kind of stopped at book 8 vowing to not start reading again until I knew the last one had been written and published - I'm guessing thats now yet then?

Re: Wheel Of Time The most recent book, book 11, was published on October 11th last year I only started reading them four years ago (my, was it that long already?) I don't think the last book will be published for a while - currently I think it will be the middle of next year from what I can gather. I'll have to check on the current expected release date.

Re: Wheel Of Time Didn't look like anyone answered. It's called Eye of The World. You should judge for yourself if you like them. It's a long ride if you are looking for a long reading commitment then you probably will like it. I have really enjoyed them over the years but I understand why some don't like it. Around books 6 on it may lose some focus but this is the guy that got me hooked on Fantasy. I have found better writers since him but I always enjoy his work.

Re: Wheel Of Time Knife of Dreams comes out on paperback this month. My list of books to read got so long it's taking me a year to get to it. It's funny because I started reading other sereis to fill the void when I got caught up on WOT.
