Short story: The Silver Chalice homework/competition

Any tips for entering a competition, (a short story named the silver chalice)?

I think my suggestions might give you a slightly unfair advantage over the others, don't you?

Nice to see you here, Tractakid. I hope you stick around and join in some of the discussions. I think you'll find there's a lot of interesting stuff here at Chronicles. Good luck with the competition. I'll be intrigued to see the winning entry. I'm hoping that your teacher will let me read it.

Ah, another school caught in the short story competition! My school did the same...I entered, although I wasn't strictly allowed to, as it was for year eight children, and I was somewhat older!
If Mr Robson has been to your school, and if he did the same workshop as he did at our school, I'm sure he would have given you lots of good advice on writing short stories.
I'm just going to say write about something you enjoy, and will have fun writing about, otherwise you'll be stuck tearing your hair out, and not having a minute of pleasure, which is what writing is all about!

I should say that I don't always do that workshop, but as I visit so many schools, it does come around pretty frequently. I designed a great workshop on character development a few weeks back - in the process I learned a few tricks for my own writing. All I have to do now is put into practice a bit more of what I preach!
