Captain Jack's second-in-command, “the hard-working hardware specialist who catalogues and strives to understand the alien devices the team comes
across”.

According to SFX magazine, "she's the workaholic of the group and the one
who takes everything the most seriously. That may have an effect on her
character in the series. But I'll leave that hanging…"

*spoiler alert* Since she died quite soon after the beginning of the first episode*end spoiler* I expect this will be a short thread.

Considering the way the Torchwood team have dealt with other deceased persons, I wonder what/if they told her family.

I didn't like her. Maybe because we really don't get to know anything of her history.

Re: Torchwood: Suzie Costello (Indira Varma)

Yes, I love a character who can say bo**ocks to make me laugh.
She seemed a bit of a cold fish, but again that may be because we don't know anything about her personal life or her background.

I didn't think of her as sweet. SPOILER * Maybe because she shot Jack and was going to kill Gwen too. And she killed those people who were just innocent bystanders to test the damn glove.*
But it was obvious that she was torn by her choices and driven by something that she was finding it hard to reconcile with her usual beliefs. Delusions of Godhood maybe?

Yeah...Godhood can do funny things to you..*Produces succulent Chicken feast from carpet fluff...*...I wouldn't know though ...

Nah...I think all the characters had some flaws born of the job, but when Gwen turned up, it all started to change...Which is nice...Also a shame at the same time...Bloody good actress Indira Varma...

I understand. I think that through her, they showed the whole team's vulnerability and humanity; their emotional lives.

Re: Torchwood: Suzie Costello (Indira Varma)

Indira Varma is great. Pity they shafted Australia by taking 'Rome' off the air after two episodes.

Yep, the way she fumbled with the knife and the gun and very nearly stuttered. She was quite sweet in her bumbling. I wonder what Jack would have done to her had she lived. Do you think she would have been punished or would he have wiped her memory? That's probably too dangerous an option though, she knew too much.

"Wait a minute" she says to Gwen while she fishes around for her gun in her voluminous handbag (all women relate to this scenario) ... and Gwen does! How daft is that?!
She should have given her a roundhouse kick to the head!

If it were an American show, she probably would have.

I thought it was quite authentic when Gwen cowered while the gun was trained on her. Many people who don't see guns very often would react like that.
