New Game: Identify the Film Quote

The idea here is, someone posts a quote from a film (not necessarily from sf/fantasy, but cool if it is), and the first one to identify the film gets a point. If you can also identify the character or characters who said the line(s) you get another point.

Okay, here's the first one. It shouldn't be too difficult.

Quote:
There was a demon that lived in the air. They said whoever challenged him would die. Their controls would freeze up, their planes would buffet wildly, and they would disintegrate. The demon lived at Mach 1 on the meter, seven hundred and fifty miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass. They called it the sound barrier.

The Right Stuff. Opening lines by the narrator.

Do I get to put a quote in now, or do you do it again?

Re: New Game: Identify the Film Quote

Very good Poly. You get a point and a half, one for identifying the quote, and half for identifying that it was the narration at the beginning of the film. But...the voice doing the narration is actually one of the characters in the film. Do you know, for the rest of the point, the name of that character? And, what the heck, just to make it fun, an extra point to whoever can come up with the other thing, besides acting, that the actor who played that role is famous for.

I guess I'm feeling persnickety tonght, huh? (Need an evil smilie here.)

Anyway, why should I get to have all the fun? Poly? Go ahead and post a quote.

1: That's not true. No one ever called Einstein crazy.
2 : Well, they would have if he'd carried on like this.

Was it Clint Eastwood, also a director?

Probably not.

Re: New Game: Identify the Film Quote

No guess on the quote you posted. It's completely unfamiliar to me.

And no, it wasn't Clint Eastwood. Here's a clue, though. The character in question was associated with the test pilot/desert part of the film, rather than the astronaut part.

Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond, Casino Royale, 1967

...and my quote, this should be easy :

Nicol Williamson as Merlin in Excalibur

And it was Levon Helm, a member of The Band, playing Jack Ridley.

Is that Indiana Jones? "Raiders of the Lost Ark" - I believe it's the Egyptian guy to Indi at the dig?

Um...okay, here's a quote.

David. The Lost Boys.

Guess this one:

"Life, which you so nobly serve, comes from destruction, disorder, and chaos."

It's a science fiction, so it should be easy enough to find.

Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg from The Fifth Element

How about this one, it's from an old classic:

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the war room!

Alex De Large from "A Clockwork Orange"

How about: "Do sit down, Sergeant. Shocks are so much better absorbed with the knees bent."

Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle, in the Wicker Man. I love that movie. Great ending.
