Re: Wagner!!!!

Yes, a few at least (despite *ahem* appearances). Can't say I'm quite that enamored of Wagner, but I do enjoy his work, and am indeed very fond of the Ring cycle. Not particularly knowledgeable about the subject, but I do enjoy classical and have rather eclectic tastes, from Gregorian chants to modern classical (Crumb, Penderecki, etc.). So... throw out some other thoughts on the subject; what composers/pieces do you like?

Re: Wagner!!!!

There is no other form of music capable of provoking such a wide range of emotions as that which is called "classical". More like "timeless". It is this music which proves we are a step above the beasts, that man is capable of so much.

And Wagner rocks, by the way.

It was highly surreal.

Re: Wagner!!!!

I don't really know Wagner's music, aside from the controversy.

But, generally speaking, I consider classical music to be better than drugs. Not that I have any real experience with drugs, but still...Falling asleep listening to classical music can give me the most wonderful, psychedelic, adventurous dreams. Like I said, better than drugs.

Hmmmmm.......... Ever tripped DMT? "A harrowing seven minute trip that feels like seven centuries." It's like staring into the face of GOD.

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is to DMT what a bottle rocket is to a nuclear warhead.

Re: Wagner!!!!

The drugs references wont save this thread.

Wagner's fascist dogma will always be the ruin of the man.

I love the Shenmue soundtrack.

Tan Dun is probably the best classical composer out there today. Chinese and Japanese classical is all I listen to these days.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the internet an outlet for the cowards who wish to be sarcastic in reality but cant cant. I've noticed on here that you all talk about being heroes all time and what powers you'd all love to have. Many of you already seem to have the well homed skill of sarcasm.
People very often mock science fiction fans for their absurd tastes, I would have thought that this makes people more opened minded, obviously it does not. I have posted a genuine question of interest here and all people can do is race to see who makes the stupidest comment?! I think its pathetic and once more I am led to loath those who use the internet.

Re: Wagner!!!!

Then stop using it mate and move on. If you had a choice of living in an enlightened but humourless world, or an ignorant but humour filled world what choice would you make? Never devalue humour.

I think you are exceptionally naive to think that readers of the science fiction genre are 'open minded' and would like classical music. Science fiction readers are quite dull people in my experience.

Everybody here has made a comment on their musical preference. I like Tan Dun.

What if we had all just answered your empty question with either yes or no?

Be careful how you talk to people in life. Else the next time you post a thread you may get no response.

Re: Wagner!!!!

Jaggy Jai: I must admit to being a bit puzzled by your response here. Yes, some of the answers have been humorous, but there have also been answers addressing your query, as well... much as it tends to be in any conversation. It's not a question of people being sarcastic per se, as simple joshing; something you'll encounter with any large group (or even small group, for that matter) of people. I think if you'll simply enjoy the humor in some of the responses, you'll also get a lot more fruitful conversation going here, as well...
