| Re: Wagner!!!! Allegra, Sweet collection! First if you havent seen Gould's video of him playing the 81 Goldbergs check it out for free here. Warning you will witness freaky genius: Goldberg Variations - Google Video Then for cds I would recommend: Bach Partitas 1,2,3, Anniversary Edition-The Partitas are ok, but the 6 little preludes are just astonishing (they are a bonus at the end) Bach two & three part inventions-Again just astonishing playing, but warning the sonics are a little messed up. No matter though its worth it. Climac |

| Re: Wagner!!!! Must admit my favourites are the Russians - Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian and especially Rachmaninov (his piano concertos - fab). Most of Handel's Messiah will have me dancing round the room or in tears. Mozart - especially Le nozze di Figaro. I hope that everyone who's posted on this thread will take time out and listen to their favourite composers (whoever they are) and relax into their music. If music be the food of love ... |

| Flaming Poltergeist | Re: Wagner!!!! I can't listen to too much Wagner, I get the urge to invade Poland. Hehe, classic Woody Allen there for you! Well that's my addition to this thread, as I can't say I've listened to much of Wanger...classical music rocks though! (lol...I don't think that quite works...never mind!) |

I am beginning to think you are from space. You have enough quick wit to go around the galaxy. The people here in Wisconsin would look at you as if you were an alien. Climac | |

| Re: Wagner!!!! Climacus, Thank you for the recommendations! The 2 CDs are in my to-buy list. The video on google is great, typical of Gould amazing perfomence! Yeah he is a genius. I don't believe anyone will ever be able to play Bach like Glenn Gould did. I like his both 1955/1981 recordings of Goldberg Variations. Not only the tempo set them apart, they are heartbreakingly beautiful in their own ways. There are also some of his videos on youtube.com. Spaceship, Rachmaninov's 4 piano concertos are also among my favorites. I also like some of Tchaikovsky's, Scriabin, Shostakovich and Stravinsky's. |

| Re: Wagner!!!! Wagner's work has always fascinated me, even if it hasn't always connected with me on an emotional level (thusfar at least). My personal favourite composers include Brahms, Beethoven, Penderecki, Ligeti, Bach, Stravinsky, Strauss... basically I enjoy an array of different styles. |

| Re: Wagner!!!! Oh, someone else who likes Penderecki and Ligeti... I'm not aware of that much of Ligeti's work, but what I am, I quite like... And I've always had a fondness for "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima".... |

| Re: Wagner!!!! Aye, I think that's a fabulous piece. I'm the same really, I only discovered Ligeti fairly recently, and I'm unable to download much music from the net currently so most new music I get comes from purchases. His work is definitely my sort of thing though. My favourite band Elend, whilst being a lot less accessible than probably any classical music I've heard (this is very dark stuff), were heavily influenced by both Penderecki and Ligeti on their album The Umbersun. Whilst I don't necessarily expect most people to enjoy it, I can't help but recommend it highly anyhow - it's certainly an experience if nothing else. |
