Re: Biggest Mystery?

Karsa Orlang had some mighty moments...
As have many others.
But Gruntle astounded me and the way Erikson wrote it...

Re: Biggest Mystery?

Gollum and Longfox, I think you have stated and answered what is, to some a fact, and not a mystery. :P

The debate remains...

Re: Biggest Mystery?

Erikson has stated in an interview that there was no plans to ressurect whiskeyjack.

So I think traveller is Dassem Ultor

Re: Biggest Mystery?

I think he's someone else, somebody not seen before. This is going off Apsalar saying he was with Kel and Dancer from the beginning, and Nok saying that Dassem didn't join them until much later.

***SPOILERS FOR NIGHT OF KNIVES***

Course, Night of Knives does suggest Dassem.

Aye well one day, and I heard this from someone calling themselves The Traveller, Erikson was sitting in the only pub in Winterpeg and for some reason he decided he needed that piece of gum stuck to the bottom of his table, Hood only knows why but writers are a bit of a strange lot. Well as he is scrapping the gum off with his trusty miniature replica of Dragonpur he notices the table has a drawing on the underside! It looks just like the back of him as he is bent over a computer keyboard and its glowing softly....

Aye and now ye know the truth behind his uncanny writing abilities!

Re: Biggest Mystery?

I am pretty certain about the identity of traveller........... He is the Seguleh first. The only being that even Icarium believes can defeat him... in bonehunters icarium told tavaralck veed on the way to the shadow throne that the warrior who they may meet there could defeat him.

Re: Biggest Mystery?

But the Seguleh First lives on the Seguleh Island... why would he be cavorting around Drift Avalii?

Re: Biggest Mystery?

Have to agree with Rane. See no reason the Seguleh First would even be interested in the Throne as it is. Also you seem to be selling Dasseem a bit short in ability. As this passage from from the books says this is not a man to cross.

"...Dassem had clashed with them for decades--and that alone was enough to give anyone pause regarding their prowess. It was said the Avowed were unstoppable, but Dassem had slain every one who had challenged him: Shirdar, Keal, Bartok. Only Skinner, they say, had come away alive from their clash." (Temper) (NOK, PSP HC, pg. 24)

Angry Re: Biggest Mystery?

hey just throwing this out there, but is the segulah 1st not still at home? i remember when toc was travellin with the segulah there was a comment on the 3rd's prowess and it was mentioned that he may have been sent off because the 1st may have become uneasy and the 2nd had disappeared so the 3rd had no1 else to challenge bar the 1st!?? so maybe traveller is the 2nd!! but if thats true then i reckon he came upon the title of the 2nd much later in his life after he had been and left the side of K and D,in the way that rake became the 7th, and is not a true segulah. So even if traveller is the 2nd... then we dont know who the 2nd is so its not much help!

Re: Biggest Mystery?

the seguleh 2nd is the knight of high house death. I remember he appeared to crokus and co in house of chains (i think). Cant remember the exact EXCHANGE BETWEEN THEM BUT I AM CERTAIN THAT HE APPEARED TO THEM WITH A VARIETY OF WEAPONS AND CROKUS RECOGNISED HIS MASK AS BEING THE SEGULEH SECOND. HE ALSO LEFT HIS SPEAR BEFORE HE DISSAPPEARED. HE WAS ALSO QUITE INSANE AND APPEARED TO BE HUNTING SOMEONE.

Re: Biggest Mystery?

He was hunting Dassem (who appears to have killed him).

Also, he's not the Knight of Death, that's Baudin. The 2nd is some other position iirc.
