| China Mieville movie According to this Paramount Vantage has purchased the horror script "Details" from writer Dan Kay. Based on a short story by British fantasy writer China Mieville, "Details" centers on the psychological phenomenon called pareidolia and revolves around a girl who disappears after having uncovered a demonic force that only she can see and her father, who stops at nothing to bring her back. | Re: China Mieville movie Huh? Thanks for the heads up Nesa, would otherwise never have been aware of this! For anyone wanting to track the story down "Details" appears in several collections including Mammoth Book Of Horror - 2003, Children Of Cthulhu - Tales inspired by HPL & of course China's collection Looking For Jake. Details is a fav of several readers of this collection and Knivesout made an interesting comparison to Ramsey Campbell. I think JD might be interested in this one.... ![]() |

Re: China Mieville movie Details was one of my favourite tales in Looking For Jake and I'm quite looking forward to seeing what sort of movie it is turned into. Am keeping my fingers crossed and giving Hollywood the benefit of the doubt despite all negative evidence. This is one tale that could be an amazingly creepy, atmospheric movie and I really would like to see it done well. It's good news too that Mieville's work is getting more recognition. He's a good writer.

Re: China Mieville movie Yes, the tail too.... And yes, GOLLUM, I read Looking for Jake ... at your suggestion, actually; it was the first Mieville I read, before PSS. And yes, I was very impressed. I've also got the Children of Cthulhu volume, as well. I'm sceptical ... especially as they're still using such terms as "high concept" *shudders* which they also used for Boogeyman, but ... let's hope they get someone who knows what they're doing...

Re: China Mieville movie I'd go and watch it too. Am quite excited about this and I really like Mieville's work and am very grateful for having been introduced to his work. King Rat would probably do well on screen as well along with several other stories in Jake. I'd like to see The Tain on the big screen. It'd be awesomely surreal.

Re: China Mieville movie Meh not as keen on King Rat per se although I'm sure you're right in terms of translation to the silver screen....BUT Tain is probably the one that most appeals on a filmscape. @Lace Yes I think you make an excellent point there. ARGH! Still wait and see.
