| Re: Emma Watson to leave Potter? I quite like her as a person: not too sure if the portrayal is TOO intense... though I think I've seen from various interviews that some of the adults think she's one of the better actors amongst the kids. |

Concerning Watson, I think that the HP movies shouldn't have to deal with a new switch-of-actors. Imagine if Lord of the Rings had to find a new character to play Sam. It just seems odd when there is a different actor playing the same role. Having two Dumbledores was strange enough, though I disagree that the new one seems *too* evil. The books get darker, and of course he's going to get darker in responce to what occurs.

However, if we're broadening out to the adults... Alan Rickman great for hamming it up, as is Jason Isaacs, and Richard Griffiths and Emma Thompson. In fact, isn't the whole series one giant pantomime?

| Re: Emma Watson to leave Potter? Personally i think the films all bad, and the books are perfect material to make films of, yet they always seem to have their head in the sand and seem to try to make it as bad as it can be, it really is a shame |

| Re: Emma Watson to leave Potter? Yes, I'm not a fan of the films at all. I watch them once at the cinema (just so I can hiss and boo at it, ha!) and then I never watch them again...unless the family happen to be watching them at christmas! ![]() |

i go to drama school, and if they acted out the entire book, the film would be longer than each LotR film put together. They have to take out the more complicated parts in order to make the films shorter, cutting corners etc. One thing that REALLY bugs me, is how in the 3rd film they don't tell you who the marauders are. it is my fave chapter in all the series when you find out who they were. and Lupin should play a big part in the next film <33 [meow]

| Re: Emma Watson to leave Potter? Yeah, often female actresses in a series or film series do not get anywhere near the same pay as the male actors do; so the publicized threat to leave may have been a ruse to command some more equal treatment in pay for her by her manager, rather than any choice that came from the actress herself. I've heard her quoted as saying she is very possessive of her role and loves being Hermione and wouldn't want anyone else to play it. I think the character of Hermone is one of the most powerful girls portrayed in literature. Girls who wield power are often rejected by our culture as "bossy," etc. and forced to curb their outward use of it, let alone girls who are intelligent and study hard, using their wisdom and foresight. Hermione isn't a manipulative character by nature, so she uses her power overtly and is very deliberately concerned with her choices - this makes her serious and sometimes angry because her concerns are also life-altering for her and her friends. Think of how often the boys used to ignore whatever she said in the early books; this is a good example of how women do not get credit for their good ideas in our culture, because of "losing their femininity." As time went on, the boys learned to listen to her and make use of what she had to offer. We also get to see her as her closest friends know her, not as her socially acceptable feminine persona that she would project to her school, profession, etc. |
