About What heppened at the end of HBP

Dumbledore put the charm on the Dursley's house, and now he's dead. Does that mean that the charm is broken too?

That is a very good point... if he alone was responcable for keeping it up it may very well have fallen with his death

I think so too. Unless the spell was able to sustain itself. I doubt if anyone else could have 'helped' Dumbledore since more of these spells seem to be pretty individual.

It could have depended on Harry living there, rather than him "keeping it up". Any spell that complex could well be self-sustaining.

it has to be self sustaining, expiring when he no longer resides there. This is after all, what Dumbledore asked him to do, visit the Dursleys one last time.

Did Dumbledore himself actually put a spell on the house? I always thought that it was something natural, along the lines of Lily's sacrifice manifesting as a protection spell for Harry against Voldemort.

Re: About What heppened at the end of HBP

I think Dumbledore enhanced the protection that Lily gave to Harry. Still, I think the charm is dependent on Harry's still being able to call 4 Privet Drive his home and his returning to the house, not on Dumbledore himself.

Yeah, I reckon the protections still there. To me, Dumbledore knew he was going to die soon, and he still told Harry to go back there. It will wear off within the next book however, when harry comes of age.

Is coming of age 17 or 18 in the wizarding world... if it is 17 you have a really good point

It is 17 - Dumbledore tells the Dursley's this when he goes to pick Harry up in HBP

I think the spell will be sustaining. I know it is not exactly on the same magnitude, but even after Sirius's mother died the permanant sticking charm on the back of her portrait remained.

No, the spell is not broken just because Dumbledore died. The charm he used was one of the most ancient of all magic and it doesnt stop working becasue the caster is dead. (like most charms and spells and such)

Re: About What heppened at the end of HBP

dumbledore cast the spell, but harry is the one who set it in motion, therefore the spell will continue.

After all it is related to his blood and not Dumby's
