I only got into Doctor Who because of Sylvestor McCoy. Without him, I would NEVER have gone near it!

| Re: The Campaign For Travels To Other Planets Sylvester McCoy was the Dr Who I grew up with too. I count watching that programme as a major influence for me into reading... ![]() Having said that, Christopher Eccleston managed the impossible and made himself even more hammy and less likeable than 'the Timmy Mallett Dr Who'. |

| Re: The Campaign For Travels To Other Planets Sorry, Briarieus but I found that comment insulting! No, I don't need counselling, and if all you lot are going to do is insult a talented actor that made a part his own, then I won't comment on this thread... I have seen him act on stage, and he has a presence, an aura and a wonderful approachableness about him... I will no longer be visiting this thread, because I know that others like me thinks he was the best Dr! If ANYONE remembers the fantastic way he also did Jackanory at around the same time then they would understand why I loved him... I think he was the BEST and I don't care... if Signatures were allowed on this forum then I'd have one of HIM in there. |

There was no intention to insult either you or Sylvester McCoy. It was just my sense of humour. I thought a bit of banter was part of what made this site a nice place to visit. I did not insult Mr McCoy at all. He is a talented actor and he did make the part his own (as do all actors who portray the Doctor) but I did not enjoy his portrayal. His tenure also coincided with a decline in popularity of the show that led to its cancellation and I know a lot of Doctor Who fans who feel the same about that period. So he is, in my humble opinion, the worst Doctor but there are many other opinions out there, all equally valid. You're not the first person to struggle with my (weird) sense of humour and you almost certainly won't be the last. If you were offended in any way at all, I apologise. Now, I'm off for an hour or two of self-flagellation. ![]()

Now back to the topic of this thread. TRAVELS TO OTHER PLANETS. Yes? No? Personally, I say YES! Earth is grand and all but we need to spice it up with a few changes now and then. Not EVERY episode needs to be set off Earth but every once in a while would be good.
