Scrobble Me This

Anybody else use Last FM?

Last FM is basically a site that lists what people have been listening to on their computers, based on information sent to them using the Audioscrobbler plugin.

You sign up, dowload the Audioscrobbler plugin (you can get this for Foobar, Media Player, WinAmp, probably iTunes etc etc) and then Last FM keeps track of what you're listening to, and compares you with other users. You can see what they're listening to, get recommendations, and find new bands and stuff like that.

Here's my profile if anyone wants to have a peek: BlueMonkey

I'm not a member of any groups or anything, cos I've been neglecting it (tut tut), but meh Show us your scrobbles!

PS - you can also just download and use the Audioscrobbler component without the last fm software, which is what I do. Google it

Amongst all that brilliant music, you listen to some pretty dire stuff mate. But dont we all? I would sign up but would fear public persecution. Also the lass uses my computer and she trully does like some cheesy crap.

Re: Scrobble Me This

Ive been using it for a year or so and have meant to start this topic myself once or twice but never got around to it. Only problem with it is not registering stuff that isnt tagged properly and a lot of my stuff isnt. Heres my user page if anyones interested http://www.last.fm/user/Stenevor/ . See youve been listeniing to the Fratellis Green, Ive had the album on a couple of times this week, think its about 50/50 hit and miss but the hit stuff makes it worthwhile.

Re: Scrobble Me This

Can't get enough of the Fratellis. I love that crap - they've got an energy that I've been sorely missing the past few months. "She said, 'It's Rosie, I told you so'"

I'll add you to friends, if you don't mind I've only today realised the networking potential of this site, I've mostly just been interested in recommendations, but it's like the audio version of MySpace. Sort of.

PS - with the tagging problem, do you use MusicBrainz? I find that it tags about 95% of my stuff ok.

Re: Scrobble Me This

Feel free to add me to friends(that goes for any other chronicles members), I havent bothered with friends and groups yet. We could start a Chronicles group if a few more join in.

As for tagging I use The Godfather which does a good job on CDs ripped to mp3 but lately ive been converting a bit of vinyl and some old tapes to mp3 via my iriver and I dont think it works with them. I could manually edit them but I never get around to it. The scrobbler software doesnt seem to register music encoded in ogg or flac either.

I will give Stephen Fretwell a listen over the weekend if I get a chance.

Re: Scrobble Me This

Is is scrobbling your stuff properly? It normally takes a few minutes before a track gets registered.

What do you use to listen to music, anyway?

I use various music players. Though I tend to use windows music player the most. I remember Winamp being better but care not.

Re: Scrobble Me This

I shall look into it. What makes it better than an audio cassette player?

Last.fm does not recognise quite a lot of the music I listen to. ie Nick Drake - Fly, Led Zeppelin - Going to California, Mr Loco RealReligiousMan... etc etc All of which I listen to almost daily.

Re: Scrobble Me This

You need to tag them, I think. Tagging adds a bit of info into the file, which the site can use to recognise the music. I use Musicbrainz to tag my files. You load your music into it and it tags it, and you do this for every new piece of music you put onto your computer.

Sometimes it won't recognise the song either, but you can do a manual search to tag it.

The Last.fm software might tag your files for you, I don't know cos I don't use it.
