I'm afraid that "hmmmmmm...." isn't even on the list of things I'd be inclined to say. I'd like to say I'm surprised at the sleazy business practice, but I'd be lying. It's becoming far too common..... Depressed, yes. Surprised .... sadly,....

Weird. I'm not sure I understand who did what, when. Her publishers paid an enormous advance, then essentially paid the bloggers to write about the book? Did the bloggers actually write about the book? Did they say good things about the book? And people bought the book because they read the blogs?

That was my understanding of it, yes. Her publishers made use of the "free services" of the internet bloggers, in essence... great PR, much like the teens that were fan clubs in the 1950s and 1960s with the early days of rock'n'roll, and were shamelessly exploited by the record companies to promote their investments.
