Red face You spend years writing a book...

You spend years writing a book... and then someone finishes it in a matter of days

Still, look at it this way, only one person writes it (technically). But thousands, if not more, will read it! Sounds worthwhile to me, regardless of the reading time or the demands of the instant gratification culture

Long live the patient authors!

Re: You spend years writing a book...

LOL! To start with this was quite amusing, but you're right, it can be an irritation to an author. I think it was when I launched Trail of the Huntress that it started - I launched the book on the Saturday and received an email on the Sunday evening saying "It's great! When's the next one coming out?" Don't people know that it takes a considerable period of time to write the odd hundred thousand words?

Ah, well, so long as people are itching to get their hands on the next novel, I will know that I'm still doing something right. It's the day I stop being pestered that I'll start worrying.

You should take that as a compliment mark. The only books I can read in 2-3 days are the ones I can't put down, those special books I fall asleep while reading, read while eating and so on. The ones that take me a month to finish---if I ever do----are the ones that don't enthuse me.

Am guilty of being one of those people who asks when the next book is out as soon as I'm done with the one I have. It's definitely a compliment.

Have already had the first email asking me to hurry up with the final book ... and Imperial Assassin isn't even on general release yet! Let's hope everyone else feels the same way when they get hold of it.

Very true. However, I sometimes drag books out because I don't want to finish reading them. I get a small daily fix. I know when i finish the book I will need a visit to the Priory.
